Default electrical...bad alt or slipping belt?

its been a while since I have ..seems like I only post when I have a problem! anyways, out of the blue my battery light came on about 3 days ago. The battery is about 2 months old so it cant be that. THe light will go off once the car is revved to about 1500-2000 rpms..but comes back on at idle. So ofcourse first thought is alternator. Somewhere I read that if you have the car running and disconnect the positive wire from the battery and the car keeps running, it isnt your alternator. It should die real fast. So I disconnected it and the car kept on running! I know I have a bad pulley/bearing because it makes a squeaking noise...is the serp. belt slipping and causing the light to come on? help me out guys! I do plan on replacing whichever pulley is bad...I think it is the idler bearing assembly if that helps.

Nate

disclaimer.....sorry didnt think about where I was posting...yes I searched but am hoping I can get some opinions about the little test i did

Yeah I had the same prob last week. Just go to Toyota and get new Alternator Brushes for $18 complete. If that doesn't solve it, get a new alternator like me. But if it does. you save $100s....
