Default rough throughout the rpm's- please help!!

ok so i got the car yesterday (5speed 92 sc300) it was pinging and running warrm so I brought it home and swapped the thermostat (lower temp) and inspected the timing to find that the distributer was loose and the timing was ever-changing. so I set it in the middle figuring i would tune it seat of the pants until i can swing by my buddies shop. start it up and i runs like ****. loosen distrib and move it back and forth no change, rnning on 5 cyl. pull plug wires until no effect, number 2 has no effect at all on th way the car runs. today, pulled intake mani, replaced all plugs(ngk iridium) and wires and cap and rotor. start up, still running like ****. move distributer back and forth, still no effect. running on 5 still, pull wires one at a time, this time its number 5, when i pull it there is no change in the way the car runs. what is going on here, I have wanted this baby for a whlle and i havent had one nice drive in it yet.
p.s. searching doesnt do **** for me, I spent like three hours trying to find a good description of the timing mark alignment and all I found was people telling others to "do a search"
