How well do stock mufflers flow?
I have an SC300 and was going turbo. I was planning on keeping the stock catback as I don't relaly like loud cars. For the most part on most older cars the most power gains come from removing the cats, which i'm doing but I was also wondering how well the stock mufflers flowed.
Becuase i'll probably end up keeping them. As long as theyre not a HUGE restriction.
Thanks.

Fellow Okie,
Are you still going to run larger piping?? From what I understand most people say to go to 3" piping for turbo. Stock is 2.25"
The resonators are the most restrictive part of our exhaust systems. The mufflers aren't too bad. However, if you go 3" and remove the resonators, then you are going to be loud anyway!!

NA cars are louder than turbo cars anyway, if your aftermarket muffler is big enough and is packed with enough sound cancelling material you shouldn't be too loud, and shape of muffler affects sound decibel too

Hrmmm.. interesting, as I would like an exhaust on my Soarer VVTi (shares the same pipework as an SC3) BUT I don't want it loud. I don't mind if there's a slight note to it but my exhaust on my old Soarer was hell drony, which is something I really want to avoid.
Interested in the GReddy MX... but I haven't seen anyone in Australia with this exhaust... I wonder how it sounds?

dejacky that sounds interesting dude, keep us posted as this is what I was thinking about doing myself too (3" dump/2.5" mid pipe to OEM rear pipes... with all the OEM resonators and mufflers in place).

Go with an electric/boost dependent exhaust cut-out from wherever (www.atpturbo.com). I had two on my z. It kept it very stock looking/sounding (this is very important in California), until you opened it up and all hell broke loose.

Some did. Some of the electrics have two small bolts holding the plate on. They tend to fall off so I had mine welded on. I could put my hand next to it and NO LEAKS. I saw at SEMA a newer style that had a much better sealing system which had a very nice machined seat for the plate to seal against much like a valve. You heard stories, did they actually have one???

IMO it's the perfect way to build a sleeper. 3" dp into 3" midpipe into stock rear section. Did mine this way and had no problem making power...and it sounded the way a Lexus should...quiet.

Hey LL do you have any pics of the exhaust set up on the silver beast? I don't think I've come across it before. That's exactly the set up I was looking at for Soarer (except maybe 2.5" to OEM rear section as I'm not looking at big numbers).
