Is the light in your dash that shows brake light bulb out? There should be an light in the dash, to the left of the P that shows the car, and the rear has what looks like smoke coming out but its for the rear brake lights. If all of your rear brake lights are out for whatever reason, the car WILL not let you shift. no brake lights = no driving. There is a fuse for the rear brake lights somewhere, but I am not sure of where it is. but you have to check that fuse out, someone somewhere will know where it is. Another thing is, when you push the brake pedal down, there is a sensor that unlocks the shifter when the pedal is depressed enough. You may need to have this replaced if your brake lights are functioning properly. When the car is normal and working fine, after you depress the brake pedal a little bit, if you do it slowly, you can hear and feel a click in the shifter, which is the release of that lock which keeps the shifter in P.
