Update:
After breaking a torque wrench, socket wrench, and having no success using a 500 ft/lb impact wrench with PB Blaster spray, my "ghetto" 6 foot long breaker bar finally loosened the crank pulley bolt. The trick is to wedge a piece of wood between the Crankshaft and engine block so it prevents the crank pulley from turning when you're trying ot loosen the crank pulley bolt. Special thanks to Dave Henry & the other 2 cats that told me about this method. http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...BreakerBar.jpg http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...reakerBar2.jpg http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...reakerBar3.jpg http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...reakerBar4.jpg |
thats one heck of a setup you got there. dont forget the locktite on it so it doesnt vibrate loose when you put on the new one.

yes you can use the toyota adhesive, though like most things now-a-days you can find a "knock off" that is the exact same. ex. honda has a liquid gasket/sealer called hondabond, if you go to an autoparts store its the gray liquid gasket that is 1/6th the price.

Special thanks to those that recommended me this tool. It fits in the 2jz-ge head crevice and fits the ARP nuts perfectly!
http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...tCraftsman.jpg http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...Craftsman2.jpg To anyone doing the headgasket upgrade, be sure to use this 13mm 12 point Craftsman deep socket, a regular deep socket will not be skinny enough to reach the nuts. |
Better late then never...
There's no need to pull the oil pan to lock up the motor especially if you have an old 5-speed flywheel. I attach the flywheel only and wedge a bar between it and the engine stand mount attached to the rear of the block to lock it in place. Then, I drop the motor on the ground and put my foot on the front engine hoist point. (It's too dangerous trying to get the crank pulley bolt off when the motor is on the engine stand, IMO.) A few tugs on the breaker bar (as dejacky suggests... 6 ft is a good length), and wa-la, it comes loose. -scott |
I've yet to install my flywheel and since I have to drill the oil return anyways, I thought I'd just use the wodden hammer :p .
Dealership gave me the wrong cam seals so I had to wait..but now I got them in. Slowly, but surely.. http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1.../assembly1.jpg Getting closer :) http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1.../assembly2.jpg tum tum tum tum tuuuuummm http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...nywrench-1.jpg --> with some elbow grease, i was able to tighten the nuts enough. http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...mblyintake.jpg If you're oil pan is already sealed up and you're installing the flywheel & clutch on the engine, I found this crank-pulley locking method to also work :): http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1.../cranklock.jpg finally going in!! http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...blyengine3.jpg http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...blyengine4.jpg |

I pulled my right shoulder trying to wiggle the damn transmission to mate that last inch with the engine..so I'm gonna take it easy until the weekend and hopefully it'll be better by then. Update 3: getting closer...: http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...blymounted.jpg |

GL Bro, happy to see it finally coming together.
|
tnks :) . I put the ignition key in the ON position and everything lights up and injectors are not leaking so that's good. I'm gonna bleed the clutch before starting just to be safe :p . stay tuned...:eek2:
|
great progress, good luck when cranking :)
|
I'm gonna assume you know to pull the EFI fuse and crank it without starting for a few seconds to get all the parts lubed up. That's if you put engine oil back in. :)
|
well i cranked it 8 times with the efi fuse in before starting..is it bad that i left the efi fuse in?:uh:
idle video :): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=geZF3IZtF3E Update 2: And now so far 20 miles on the intercooler-less car :). |
