Default SC400 electric fans

I see where this has been mentioned in the past, but haven't found where anyone has discussed bypassing the hydraulic fan pump to run electric fans. And before someone says it's not worth it, it very much is in my situation. I have a car that's missing all the fan stuff except for the pump on the engine, and I'm not about to buy all the things to put it back to stock.. Not sure yet if a shorter belt will solve this problem, but do any other models with the 1UZ (LS,GS) have an idler pulley in place of this pump? What about the newer VVT-i engines? Any help or tips would be greatly appreciated!

Hell, right now I'm just gonna run the thing without fluid 'till it locks up. Any other ideas?

No worries.. The fan pump locked up like a vault, snapping the drive belt. Got a 72" belt and everything is great. May need to bend up the lower hardline from the fan pump for clearance.

This is what happens when you run your car without fan fluid..

The dual Flex-a-Lite electric fans are an upgrade to the SC's relieving the engine of horsepower lost by powering the belt-driven fan. I got this from intellexual.net and I was considering this mod in the near future. I don't know how much power is regained but I'm sure it'll at least be noticeable.

I think this only works on the SC300s because the Flex-a-lite ones do not fit in?
Not definite Rich care to chime in?

Yeah.. I had FAL's at some point a couple years ago. They will fit the 400 fine, but they are more of a downgrade, and you have to bypass the fan pump as described above. Not sure what I'll run yet on the 400.. no fan is doing just fine for now.

How much do the flex-a-lites run for about? I might consider buying one. Cars hit in front end and may need a new fan, not running right now cause its pushed in about 2-3inches towards engine and rubbing against the shroud. Getting it worked on in a week or two finally.

Default would not recommend that permanently, but......

As I mention in thread: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=144931 , I had a BMW 3.0cs that I ran for more than a year with no fan, and the engine sure sounded great without the noise of the fan. When everything was working right, I didn't need the fan unless I was stopped anywhere for more than 2 or 3 minutes. Although one time I got caught in traffic and started to overheat myself at the thought of my car overheating!

Default electric fans

I put an electric fan on my 94 S10 Blazer and my gas mileage went from 18 to 20 mpg. I'd guess I picked up at least 10 HP. It's unfortunate no one makes a kit for the SC's.
