greddy t78 or T60-1

have oportunity buy:

greddy t78 turbo or

Super T4 Turbo T60-1 Stage V-Garretwheel for Mazda RX7
60-T Compressor whee, Stage V Brand new Garret internals garret wheel T04 "P" 1.05 A/R Turbine housing .
Compressor housing A/R 60 T04E Inducer 2.324"/ Major 3.00"

that will be for my FI 1994 sc 400

Must say do not want do anything with CR changing. Will be stock, but fuel system will be upgraded and will be well tuned. Nothing more that 14 psi. Maybe even only 10...

what do you thinking?

thanks
Jerry

The 60-1 is kind of on the small side for your displacement/car, but if that's the only two options you have, go for it. If you want something a little bigger that spools a little slower than a 60-1 and will make a significant amount more power than the 60-1, look into a 67mm compressor turbo w/ a GT37 exhaust wheel. The GT37 spools faster than the P-trims and seem to make just as much if not more power. How much you looking to spend? I may have a turbo for you.

Depends on how much power you are going to try and make. Right now, I have a T-78 and believe me, it is a pain in the ass to get all the parts together to build the car. You might be able to get away with stock fuel on the T60-1

I try stay realistic with my car. One member is drive twin ct-26 and with about 7 psi made I thinking about 350-370 RWHP. Will be happy if I can make at end 12-14 psi with good AFR. Not want more because tranny and not sure what stock engine with stock CR can ... Will start with 7-8 psi ...

So realistic looking for turbo that will give me max 15 psi with good spool up. In my calculations it looks as turbo that give good, not so hot 50-55 lbs/min air is needed.

If that is the case then go for the T60-1.

you have pm

The 60-1 is an outdated design... I wouldnt waste your time with it... it has a narrow efficiency range like all the other T04B turbos...
Try a T61 or one of its variants... its a newer series turbo (relatively speaking anyways, its a T-series) than the T04B series (that the 60-1 is based around)...

If you're going to be running standard garret parts, I'd stay away from the "such and such RX-7 super jumbo combo with stage V wheel blah blah blah"

T61 turbo
T04S compressor housing (.70 A/R)
.70 or .84 exhaust A/R housing
P-trim turbine wheel

I'd get that turbo... you should be able to call any garret dealer (or someone like ATP, Precision Turbo, etc) and get something just like that... The decision to make there is whether you want the .70 or .84 exhaust housing... with the larger displacement of the V8, I'd personally run the .84... but if you're wanting some quicker spool ~500rpms or so I think... go with the .70... it will just not have as much efficiency for when you REALLY start raising the boost (and making more top-end power in the rpm band)

I wouldnt run something like the suggested 1.05 A/R... thats a bit too big and the spool will suffer quite a bit... that turbo is designed for the high-exhaust energy RX-7 (rotary motor)... it has a very high exhaust A/R for high flow characteristics... turbos suitable for RX-7s arent good turbos for regular street cars for the most part (and vice versa)

thanks Bean
that very interesting..

1jz question

I have a question. If I get the 2jz 550cc injectors. do I have to deal with adding resistor s like the mk3 guys ?. or just bolt in and tune with safc ?

yes you need the resistor pack; the mkiv one also works

Lextreme Apr 12, 2005 04:59 PM

Its the 2jzge top or side feed.

Bean Apr 12, 2005 08:34 PM

GE motor is top feed, high impedance 330cc...

US-spec (export) GTE motor is side feed, low impedance injectors, 550cc, utilizing a resistor pack so the ECU to injector wiring has a high impedance when "communicating" with the injectors

JDM-spec GTE motor is side feed, high impedance 440cc injectors

1jz-gte motor is side feed, high impedance 370cc injectors

Lextreme Apr 12, 2005 08:36 PM

If topfeed. Why would anyone want to use sidefeed injectors from 2jz motor. Try Mazda Rx7. They stock 550 cc. I have eight in my Lexus... no resistor needed.

Bean Apr 12, 2005 11:18 PM

take a look at what kind of car he's putting it in before you dole out that advice... he's asking for info about upgrading the injectors in his 1jz

some RX-7 injectors are top-feed some are side-feed... prolly better for information purposes if you state what generation/year injectors you have... which are obviously the 2nd gens, now question is what year they are since the 2nd gens had low impedance and high impedance injectors... obviously you have the high impedance injectors
