Post compression or leak down test..

has anyone taken their car to a compression or leak down test?
if so, how much did it costs and what results did you get per cylinder?

Compression and leak down test both measure the condition of your cylinders. The leak down test is more accruate. Here are the procedure for the leak down test: Roll your pistons on TDC(Top Death Center), apply compress air into cylinder, there are two gauges on this tool, one measure the amount of air coming in, the other one measure how much air leak out. Shops usually charge about 1-2hrs. Your friendly stealership will want about $300 .

i would buy the comp tester and keep that tool.
on the other hand the leak down will tell you where (if any) leakage is accurring and will give you a better visual on engine condition. Generally if you could buy all the tools and DIY. then you can keep them for this car and others.....hell charge your friends to use them.(we do that with fender rollers.)

just pick up a compression test at you local autozone or whatever you have around. they are like 20buxs and very easy to use. as mentioned above, the leak down test is more accurate.

Here is a pic of the Leak down tester. As you can see there are two gauges on this device.
