Default 92 sc400 went into a limp mode

I was driving my '92 sc400 yesterday when it suddenly lost power. I was traveling at about 25 mph when it happened. I was a few miles from home, so i continued driving. By the time i arrived home, the car smelled like a candle burning. I popped the hood and a light smoke was visible near the fire wall.

I then did the paper clip trick to see if the diagnostic was throwiing any codes. When i performed this, the o/d off light blinked.

I have 170,000 miles on this car and have never had any problems. I have completed all scheduled maintenance.

I made some mods about a year and half ago, when the car only had about 95k- borla exhaust with a custom cat-back, and a K&N panel filter. After i made these mods, the check engine and tac control light would come on every so often, but would never stay on for too long. The diagnostic would kick out a 25 code. My mechanic told me not to worry, it was probably being triggered by a temperature discrepancy with the new breathing of the car. Gas mileage has improved to around 20 city and 24 to 25 hwy (from 19 cty, 23 hwy).

MY CONCERN THROUGH all this is in my 1st paragragh. I just added the other info to see if anyone knows if the two are related. It is Sunday morning, and if i can do a fix myself this weekend, that would be cool.

Thanks for any insight.
