P/S Problem: Need advice / help
Ok, here's the dealyo... I bought all the usual stuff for timing belt replacement., and decided to throw the P/S pump in there before it went out and ruined my altenator,.... well, my mechanic installed the pump, bought from bma importers & distributors, to which they 've been good thus far. Well, the problem is, the P/S pump doesn't work,... and I'm wondering is there a difference between the 96-97 vs 98-00, and since mine is the body style of the 98 although it is a 97, was I supposed to order the pump for a 98 ( late 97 model ) vs getting the one I have???
My car is in Austin and I'm houston, so that's makin' it more suck azz than it has to be?? The thing was only $177,... any one have any idea how much one from Lexus costs or where to get a better one???
I hate headaches!!!

What MODEL year is your car? This should be on your registration. You can also confirm this by giving your VIN to a Lexus dealer and have them look it up for you. You should get a pump for your model year, not the manufactured year. Although, sometimes a mid-model year change occurs and then your manufactured date will be relevent. Does the pump you put in look identical to the one you took out? If it differs in any way then that should tell you that you put in the wrong pump.

Did he put fluid in it? I don't see how it could just not work if it's bolted in and the belt is turning the pulley. Is it spewing fluid everywhere? Who is working on your car? Tickle me elmo?

Verdict: Dead P/S pump,... these are rebuilt,...so this was D.O.A.
My mechanic ended up repairing all the seals on my old one, as the pump was still good and re-installing it. $250 for labor and repair, on top of the $150 to remove / replace the first one with the busted one... daaaaayummm mmmm mmmm!!
My mechanic has worked on all of my cars for the last 12 yrs and never has had a problem.... he's not the issue,... the supplier is issueing me a store credit, since they don't accept returns... dayum!
oh well,.. I guess it's only money right? ( feelin' all of that right about now.. and gotta get back down to Austin to get my ride... dayum again! )

Now THAT sucks! How'd something like that pass QC? Not only can't you get your cash back for the DOA pump, but you had to pay to have it installed TWICE because of it!!!! How does your a$$ feel today?!
