Default From Reverse to Drive gear, safe?

I was wondering on the SC400, is it safe to switch from reverse to drive gear while the car is still reversing (in motion), then push on the gas pedal, while never using ur brake. How fast can u do a reverse to drive if this is safe? Also, is it harmful to the car if u always drive with o/b off and pwr on?

I heard its not good for the transmission.
My brother does it sometimes on his 3.2tl but doesn't recommend it.

My mechanic friend tells me it shortens the life of the tranny.

i did the opposite once in a parking lot and oh boy was it bad! i was rollin forward saw a parking spot and thought my car stopped rolling or i was in a rush and i put it into reverse without applying brake to switch into it or gas pedal and the car just turned off on me. that was the only time my car shut off on me.

^ or the most burned out clutch

of course doing this is bad for teh tranny. think about it. the wheels are still rolling in reverse when your torque converter is sitting there slipping, trying to power the wheels back into a forward roll. toooons of heat and slippage in the torque converter. same idea as why neutral drops are bad

Default Treat it like a woman

Yes, yes 5-speed gods. You are what we aspire to be! (Me especially!) HOWEVER, this thread is about us lesser folks who drive slushboxes.......

That being said, NEVER change the position of your AUTO shifter to R if not stopped (completely) or to D if not going forward or stopped. Seriously folks, read the owners maual!

Respect the fine engineered mechanics and treat it like a woman. Otherwise you pay a mechanic that laughs behind your back after you explain to them why you need a new tranny. And why?

Just be gentle.

My girl did this in my car once. She hasn't driven it since. She lost her driving priviledges!

OD off. PWR on is fine.
OD is for saving gas on the highway.

As for the R to D switch, you may be able to pull of about 7 of them, on the 8th D might feel very similar to N.
DON'T DO IT!
