I installed a Short ram Injen Intake a few months a go and now i have a check engine light, I am pretty sure it is due to the intake. Since the intake installation my idle has increased to about 1,000rpm or slightly over. Has anyone had this problem on their sc's. I have a 97 SC, im not sure if the year makes a difference, since my intake design is a ltittle bit different. from the earlier models.

What did you do with the rubber hoses that used to connect to the stock intake?

i used the hoses that came with the injen intake. I dunno if the hoses are a cause for the reason but i was told by my mechanic the problem may be due to the extra air flow from the filter/

those cone filters don't flow anybetter... infact it's been documented that the Injen intake system doesn't work better at all -- it heat soaks, and then doesn't accomplish much of anything.

I'd check all your vacume hoses, and actually pull the check engine code.

Yeah man, what's the code read? Pm me if you need instructions on how to pull the code using 2 pieces of wire. I have the injen intake on my SC and I had no issues whatsoever with installation. I didn't notice any gain other than in engine-looks but by then it was already too late, the thing was charged to my CC and I had already installed it. I'd say to pull the code before I can chime in on what I think the issue may be...

how are your going to pull flash codes from an ODB 2 car? u need a scanner

My mechanic pulled the code, it is P051 (its a code that has to do with the throttle timing)

actually i believe p0510 is Closed Throttle Postion Switch Malfunction

Oopsie, forgot his screen name was "97"...OBDI we can pull the code ourselves (I just pulled a code from my '92 on Saturday) on the OBDII cars a person could just go to Pep Boys/AutoZone and have them pull it for free. Looks like he already got the code diagnosed, now he just has it fix the issue. I'm wondering what the intake has to do with this...

Check connection on TPS.
If you don't know where to find the TPS, I feel sorry for your car. j/k
It's the black plastic cased piece protruding in the direction of the front of the car from the throttle body.

The P051 error code is the throttle position sensor. My question is, Does the intake have an affect on the throttle position sensor? I have the injen intake on it and i believe the light came on due to the intake upgrade, or it could just be bad timing that the throttle position sensor needs to be replaced at the same time. My car has 100k on it, Has anyone had to replace their throttle position sensor?

Has to be coincidence man. I have heard of TPS's going bad after 100k but it's not that often. Also from what I've read the TPS can be "adjusted" via a small screw, total replacement may not be necessary. I just don't see any correlation between adding an intake and the TPS going bad. I mean you have to remove the stock airbox and all that stuff connected to it, is there a possibility that during removal of the old part an installation of the new part that the TPS may have been damaged? Like I said dude, it has to be coincidence...try adjusting the TPS before plunking down the bread for a whole new one.

Thanks for the help, I think i will try to adjust the TPS, I have never dealt with taking it out before i know there are 2 screws that hold it in place, is there a certain screw that adjusts it?
