To much transmission fluid
Hi, I checked my tranny fluid this morning with the engine cold and it read full at the hot mark. Then I brought the engine up to operating temp and checked again and it was over the hot mark by a good bit ( maybe a quart over ). The fluid was changed ( drain and fill ) by a local Toyota dealer about two months ago, Will this do any damage? I'm going to take it back to the dealer and see whats up but I wanted an opinion if this will hurt the transmission. It's a 98 LS. 55K. Thanks M
One more thing, anyone have a rattle that sounds like a heat shield from under? Seems to go away after warmup.

Wrong forum but whatevah'. Yes overfilled ATF is very bad and you should drain the excess ASAP. And just to make sure, you are checking the fluid while the car is running right?? As for the rattling, thats most likely exhaust heatshield, especially around the cats, and they are probbably just loose.

When my transmission is going it makes a rattling sound. So better check it. I also thought it would be some kind of shield until it starts slipping.

Make sure you check tranny fluid with a warmed up tranny. You need to drive it around for about 10-15 minutes or so and then check while the car is idling. Even though there is a cold mark, it can sometimes be deceiving. If it is still way over, drain the excess immediately. Too much can cause damage. Do not wait till you start smelling burning rubber or see blue smoke from the exhaust (tell-tale signs of overfilled tranny fluid).
I doubt with those miles and a 98 Lexus that the tranny is going. Not impossible, just not likely. Check if any heat shields are loose (especially around the exhaust, and cats. That was my problem).
