Default What do I need?

Ok, I'm about to change my timing belt. Along with it, I plan on changing the water pump, idler pulley, and tensioner. Is there anything I am missing that I should also do? Are the parts listed above the same thing as idler bearing #1? Is there a #2? Just a bit confused...

how many miles do you have?

you can change the water pump at any time, its not in the line of the timing belt job.

It's suggested to change the water pump when changing the timing belt due to the amount of labor involved. It's best to swap out the pump while you have that portion of the engine torn down so that you won't have to go back in there again to replace the pump when it fails. And since you're already doing that much work change the thermostat too, the part is cheap ($20 or less) and makes sense to change while you're in there. Just change the items you listed in your initial post and you'll be fine.

i agree mike, but on the sc3, the pump is not in the way of the timing belt, so it can be done later without the timing belt labor.

It's not in the way per se, but it is right there below the T-belt once you access it. I just hate going back into my engine a couple of months later if I can help to avoid it. My motto is "since you're in there, replace it if it's not too expensive" So that's how I try to save on labor. If you're tight on money like most then just do what's necessary but do it right, if you have a little change to spare then replace anything and everything you can while you have the engine torn down

I did my timing belt about 4 months ago...now I have the new water pump and thermo still sitting in my trunk because I didn't take a little more time to replace those components. Now, because of my prior laziness (or "lack of time" as I like to put it) I have to go right bck into that same region of the engine. Same labor, done twice, and could have been avoided....

no point in waiting till it fails, you should just do it now and save yourself the 100 dollar towing fee and extra labor costs.
