Question Whats the best turbo for street and Drag?

I am looking for opinions on what everyone thinks is the best street/drag strip turbo exhaust housing combo. I am currently running a t61 .58 and making 433whp at 18lbs. I like the 61 with the .58 because it spools quick and gives good torque on the street. I am thinking about upgrading to a t67 with a .68 housing. This should give me around 500whp at 16/18lbs. Everything I have read I will be giving up about 500rpm of spool, I currently start spooling around 3200 to 3500. So I don't think that is too bad.

But now I am going to the drag strip. I do not care if I win anything, just need to put on a good showing.

Ok, What do you guys think? Please give some information as to why you would go one way or another.

It will really depend on what you want to run at the track ( and what you consider streetable ) Streetability is somewhat of a subjective question.

What tranny are you running? Do you still have the stock differential in the car?

I have been told with my current setup I should make 12's. I would like to be in the low 12's, anything lower is gravy.

I am running a modified automatic. I had it done at Batleground Engineering in Atlanta and I am the first to have this done. So you could say I am thier test rat. Still running stock differential.

Probley should have posted some specs on the car.

I'd consider the SP63. Full boost on your car by 3700-3800 depending on your tune. If you're just shooting for low 12's, do this turbo. It is capable of over 600 rwhp with the bigger exhaust housing.

Ethan's car was SICK with the 63.

The 63 is great, but you should really be able to go low 12s on what you are running now as far as the turbo.

With street tire pressure (32psi) in my nittos with the 63 my car went 11.5x and 11.6x repeatedly at ~23psi of boost. That 61 should get you 11.8-12.2 pretty easily if you have a good converter and learn to launch the car.

2 questions - what size exhaust housing? What is whp at 23psi?

I'll agree with both Cory and Ethan, the 63 would be a great choice for your setup and your goals. LIke ethan said, 11's are absolutely doable with this turbo on some sticky tires.

If you're on the stock diff I'm assuming it's an open ended rear, you may want to consider a supra tt or trd limited slip diff to put power down to both wheels. Otherwise you'll be a "one wheel wonder"

good luck

You should do great with the setup you have. Adding a LSD and a HighStall Torque converter. Add some race fuel and up the boost for the track. Even if you upgrade to the 63, you will still have to upgrade the rest.

.81 and ~500 RWHP.

I would stick with the turbo you have and put the money in an LSD, drag radials, and converter. EASY low 12s/high 11s with that turbo you got if you spend time learning to launch the car.

1 more question - why the .81? I was told the smaller the housing the quicker the spool and more torque, but you trade off on the high end. So would I be better off to upgrade just the exhaust housing and things you listed above.

Everyone thanks for the information.

I'm one of those stupid folks that has a size issue. I'd say go for a PTE67S trim. Your auto will eat a bunch of the power off so I'd go a bit bigger than a 63. Plus it will keep you happy when you get used to the power. The drive train mods are a very good suggestion as well.

what size hot side is on your current turbo?

Seriously, if you really only want low 12s you DO NOT NEED TO CHANGE YOUR TURBO.
