Question Another Head Question

OK I've been reading about the differences between theh GE and the GTE head, heres what I think I know

*GE head flows better
*Exhaust bolt patters are NOT the same
*Different Cams, springs

Is this still concidered correct?

Here are my Questions:

Will the intake manifold from the GTE bolt to the GE?

Any differences in valves?

Will cams like the the HKS series for the GTE fit the GE head?

Would it make sense to put a GE head on a GTE short block, if it really flows better and your planning on running different cams and converting to a single turbo anyways?

I really like the GTE block b/c of the little extras like oil squirters but if the GE head flows better then why not run it? I have one...its on my car....I guess it would make sense to me, but am I missing something?

the GTE intake manifold & exhaust manifold will not fit on the GE.

That's why DaveH makes a custom intake manifold.

IIRC, the cams from a GTE will work. SC300T has a set of custom Crower cams -- here's the link to his writeup. http://www.datapathusa.com/scott/crower.html

the big difference between the GE & GTE's internals is oil squirters, and compression. Why bother with a new shortblock if the one you have has already been proven to hold plenty of HP?

I'd get a boost logic turbo kit, a daveh intake manifold, AEM ECU, and all the other odds and ends and go for it.

Well, almost... The intake cam will work, but the GTE exhaust cam doesn't have the gear to drive the distributor. This is OK if you're going to lose the distributor and run with coils, but if you plan on keeping the distributor, the Crower regrind is the way to go.

Stay far far away from the AEM standalone unit. Either do it right with Motec, or get the MAP ECU. A LOT of engines have died due to the AEM unit.

I hadn't heard that before. Any references? I have an AEM sitting in my garage waiting for time to install it.

There was a post by someone over on SF about AEM being crap... he was set straight pretty quick by a few 900 & 1000 RWHP MKIV owners

EDIT: A good SF AEM link http://www.supraforums.com/forum/sho...ht=AEM+problem

AEM ecu doesn't kill motors, owners or tuners do.

This is good info, however, I believe he was referring to my question about using cams made for the GTE head being used on a GE head while on a GTE block. So the distributor shouldn't be a problem?

Wow now thats confusing.

I have also read the thread on SF about the AEM debate, it all sounded like lack of effort or at worst a 1:1,000,000 case. The only other complaints I have heard were from RX-7 FD owners, and well.....rotarys are a little different anyways. There pretty true to there tuning methods with there power FC's and whatnot,
just as Supra owners are with their A***s. I'm gonna start looking for some info on the Dave H intake mani, let me know if anyone has any other info on it.

Thanks again people

?????
This was exactly the question I answered... The distributor is on the head (hence the need for the distributor drive gear on the exhaust cam). What block you put it on is irrelevant.

You CAN use the GTE intake cam on the GE head, but NOT the exhaust cam unless you plan on losing the distributor. If you plan on keeping the distributor, the Crower regrinds are your only choice

OK I got ya. Thanks for clearing that up. I think coil packs would be the way to go.
