Angry I'm very close to getting rid of my SC....

So for the past few months, I've been burning motor oil like a diesel engine. The engine light would come on and I would have to refill the motor oil in the middle of the road. There's no blue smoke and no obvious leaks. This means it's either I have a seal problem or my engine is cracked somewhere internally. The car is a 92 130K miles. The car has been well maintained and almost completely restored and then this comes up! With all the little problems, a mysterious oil leak is not something I have time for anymore. There's a repair every weekend. I'm very close to getting rid of the SC. I'm so tired of it.

Here's a picture of my car for kicks(courtesy of brendanlim):

CLIFF NOTES: Massive engine oil consumption. Sick of it.

Would you like to share where you purchased the gasket and how long/how much the install too? I think I am having the same problem. Thanks.

have you tried new main seals...they have been problems with certain peoples sc's and its the only thing i could think of that would cause oil loss without the smoke other than the previously stated cam covers. check into it and good luck with your car

Where is the oil going? If it's not burning then is there any visible oil leaks around the engine bay?

There are no obvious leaks but there is black grease around bottom of the engine near the tranny. There was also a little grease around the spark plugs when I changed them. I'm gonna have to bring the car in soon. Perhaps get rid of it as well.....

Totally sounds like the valve cover gasket. This is a common problem with the 2JZ. Even Supra people have this problem I belive. I think it was documented on www.mkiv.com somewhere.

Yeah. I saw a lot of people on supraforums with the problem with the exception that they had blue smoke from their exhaust. Thanks DIrEctQL for the link.

Perhaps we should add this to the common problems faq.

Bought them from carson toyota 15 dollars a peice. these 2 gaskets one for left cover and one for right cover part numbers are 11213-46020 and 11214-46011

the install took me over 5 hours im sure i could do it in less time next time but i was changing the spark plugs spark plug wires rotor cap pcv valve and cleaing the throttle body.

Its a bit tougher than changing the plugs since you need to take off the whole intake manifold which is a *****. took me 2 hours to figure out how to take that off since there are bolts that are hard to reach. anyways its not too tough of an install just remember where all the vaccum hoses go and make sure your tb gaskets ect is good so there will be no leaks.

Do you suppose that I need to replace my valve stem seals as well?
