Question 1998-up SC400 performance mods?

I just bought a 1998 SC400 a few weeks ago and I am looking to do some minor performance mods to it. Does anyone know of any intake and/or exhaust systems that will fit my car? I am wanting to get a good V8 growl from my car but nothing too obnoxious. I know there are not too many options for the VVT-i 1UZFE motor but I might as well try. I am also looking to get a Dragon TC for the car as well. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I have a 98 SC400 and I put a replacement K&N filter in the stock airbox and unbolted the air silencer that was mounted to the front of the airbox up under the headlight, it made the car much throatier and it seems to run stronger too. I plan on doing some custom exhaust to the car next .

Since you have the late model, I believe you can get the SRT intake and ecu combo to work on your car. It won't fit directly onto the sc400 but a little engineering can get it to work. Someone on CL has done it on the sc400 before.

The gs400 and is300 guys have gotten good results from the product.

Here is Greg's SRT install on his 98+ SC400

The BFI from http://planetsoarer.com/ is another good choice.

Hopefully, the passenger side header I am working on will be available within a month or so and of course the rest of the exhaust needs help.

Thanks for the info guys. Sounds like both can produce some decent gains. We'll see how much I want to spend in a few months. Right now I need to purchase some engine/tranny mounts since mine seem to be worn.

jbrady - Good luck on the headers! I can't wait to see how much faster your LS get's. My mom has a 1998 LS400....maybe I can persuade her to do some mods .

Default Unbolting the headlights

I have searched and found that the early model SC's unbolt the headlights from behind the front fenders. Does this apply to my 1998 SC as well? I am planning to remove the stock intake snorkel as well. Also, does anyone know if the 1998 SC400's have a center resonator or a catalytic converter. I know there were a few changes made since OBD II but little information is available for the 1998-up SC's. I am planning to remove the center resonator (if they have one) and rear resonators then run 2.5" exhaust to some new straight-through mufflers. Perhaps I will get a beefier sound and a little more power without losing any low-end power. Has anyone done exhaust mods to their 1998-up SC400? Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks,

I'm doing something similar in a few days, I will be cutting my exhaust at the y-pipe and straight piping from the cat, im converting to a single 2.5" pipe and then a 4"tip. Im looking to get noisy as well, but im also hoping to open her up a bit
