what turbo kit for sc3
i plan on going turbo with my 5spd. i've been looking at my options and its the DaveH kit or the Fmax kit. i want to run about 350-400 with the 2jzge. in the long run what kit is better and what kit would be best for the $$$$.
|
Go with F-MAX because it's the most complete kit for your car. DaveH kit is great and inexpencive but you will need to purchase some more parts.
Chris |
but after purchasing all the parts for the daveH will i be paying more than the fmax kit. and is the fmax kit able to produce 350-400rwhp. thanx for the help
|
go daveh for the lower cost, but im partial since i got that kit!

it seems like the daveH would cost more after i get all the parts since i have to get the pipes, BOV, fmic..etc.
|
boostlogic also has a nice price on a complete kit, FMIC and all... Pretty close in price to Fmax but with a lot more bang for your buck. Much better setup IMHO also.
|
I heard the TBKO kit came w/ intercooler, all pipes, fuel system, Greedy E manage and a new SS tubular header. That sounds like a REALLY complete kit? Just stating what I heard, I don't know quality or fitment, I have the GTE motor?

the dave-h kit will easily make that amount of power... the fmax wont have an easy time of it; and it should be cheaper after all the parts than the fmax will be
if you want a full kit; get a boostlogic kit; its only $4500 and has the best header of them all... |
i found the boostlogic kit. how much power can i make with that kit. and is there any other kits.
basically im looking for a complete kit to make 350-400. whats the best one for the price. im looking to spend arround 4,000 on the turbo kit. |
from what i hear the BL and DaveH kit can make similar power... looking around 450-500rwhp with the DaveH kit with the GN-based PT51 turbo he uses (which is pretty large)...
not sure on the BL kit but its "supposed" to be in the 400-450rwhp range... and this is also numbers with tuning and correct supporting mods, etc... |
are you looking for a cheap kit or a quality kit that will make great hp and last for years to come?
toyomoto has a great kit that costs a litle more but is worth every penny and comes complete....with everything you need.... 305-599-3050 www.toyomoto.com |
IMO Sound Performance has the best header around (the BL is very nice though bean), beautiful downpipe also, and their cust svc is second to none.....I call there and they all know me by my first name, and before that I was 'sir.' I can't say enough about their product or service. I'm with SC300TURBO though, in general if you want to go cheap, expect to get what you pay for...that is not a dig at Dave H, whom I have respect for.

Not that it matters for you.. but the BL header lets you keep the distributor while still allowing a 4" turbo inlet. And you can make however much power you want with the BL kit... depending on which turbo you choose:) and how much you want to spend on electronics, fuel, etc. |
Exactly what does the Boost Logic kit include? From the descriptions ive seen, it seems they leave out the BOV and any electronics, and supplemental fuel items.

First off I want to say there is "no such thing as a complete Kit". No matter what kit you buy you will have to add things to to get 400 whp. Trust me, I did a TON of research. I am running the Boostlogic kit and I love it. But you are right the boostlogic kit dose not include blow off valve, electronics, headgasket, bigger fuel injectors, or fuel pressure regulator. Plus for 400+ you will also have to remove the restrictive exhaust and rebuild the tranny. my set up T61 with a .58 at 16lbs boost = 416/420 whp - DAILY DRIVER Boost logic kit 550 injectors 3mm headgasket grady boost controller SAFC II HKS blowoff custom exhaust custom fuel pressure system OBDII car - so I ran a supra tt MAF. Duel eletric fans. Rebuilt auto transmission with cooler. Hope this helps and good luck.;) |
Thanks for the info Derf, I appreciate it.
|
what exactally would you need to add on to the dave h kit anyway? some sort of fuel control, like an afc? intercooler, a boost controller and what else? the tt maf? if theres anything else that one would need to get a basic kit going?
|
what exactly is it on the bl kit that makes the kit almost double the cost of a dave h kit? i know their quality is better and looks but is that it? your paying like 2 grand more for something that flows a little bettter?

I do know that flow makes a big difference when you start going for more horse power. When I first put on the boostlogic kit, I was running the stock cat back exhaust and my number 6 header would glow red after a few pulls. Once I put the 3inch midpipe and a custom exhaust I picked up about 30whp, with no glowing manifold pipe. I am in the process of tunning with new cam gears and with more tuning to go. I just put down 450whp at 17lbs boost on a t61 - 93 oct. Is this because the exhaust manifold flows well? Could be but I wouldn't say that it hurts you either. ;) TT Maf will work on a OBD II car, you will want a lexus LS400 Maf for a OBDI car. |
I am hoping to make 650 rwhp with my BL kit.

i see you have the stock intake manifold, how did u route your ic piping?
|
all the piping comes with the kit
|
Inivative turbos are the best imo
i got the t51 buy them its rated at around 1000-1200hp last time i cheaked does the job for me kciks in at around 4000k and can spin wheels even at 250km if i floor it |
the only thing i dont like about the BL kit is the fact that it doesnt come with injectors, electronics, or a BOV
but it is a very high quality kit. also does SP have a website ????? |
kits usually do not come with electronics.
bl sells injectors if you want. |

had a new dyno test on Nos and during boost we lost traction on the dyno .....

Just found you forum!
Didn't mean to jack the thread, but didn't want to start a new one with the same question . I have a 93 SC300 5-speed & was going to ask the same question. You guys seem to have a lot of experience with these cars that is very insightful. I am looking at the Boost Logic kit, what electronics do you recommend for a street driven, basic kit? Thanks.
|
I am going to assume that when you say basic kit you mean no headgasket, no new injectors and run off of wastgate boost, which on the boostlogic will be roughly 10lbs - roughly 300 something whp. You could get by with a SAFC-II and a boostgage as the min. If you go for more power you will need a boostcontroller. Do a search here and at Supraforms NA section - you will find a ton of information.
