1995 SC400 Tranny Leak
Are tranny leaks common in these cars and it is usually a seal or a hose that goes out? Mine drips
about 5 drops a night around the area where the trans meets the torque converter. The drips fall
off 2 parallel bolts near the front of the trans. Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks,
Dan.

Determine 1st what is leaking.
Transmission Fluid or Engine Oil.
The area it is leaking from means it might be your rear engine seal leaking motor oil.
So analyze what is leaking and that will determine how to repair the leak.

If it's red, it could also be toyota antifreeze - the way to check is taste it - yes - taste it. If it has a sweet taste, it's antifreeze (be careful to wash you mouth out - antifreeze is poison). If it tastes nasty aweful it's tranny fluid.
Probably tranny fluid based on where it's leaking from.
A cheap fix could be to simply replace the form-a-gasket on the tranny pan. Do this:
1. drain your tranny pan. (let it drip for a few hours - the valve body sits in tranny fluid and drips like a stuck pig)
2. pull all 22 10mm tranny pan bolts out. Your pan will still be stuck up to the tranny. whack the pan a few times with a rubber mallet to knock it off.
3. carefully scape the form a gasket from the tranny pan and from the mating surface on the tranny.
4. Squirt some new form a gasket onto the pan (real intuitive). let it set up for 5 min.
5. reinstall tranny pan and torque the bolts appropriately.
6. keep the $1400 your mechanic wants to charge you to fix some unbroken thing
