2jz removal hints?
 

Unfortunately, I have to pull the motor on my car. I've pretty much removed everything *but* the motor when I built the car up; however, I haven't pulled the motor and tranny together.

The harness will have to stay with the car because the harness now supports dual pumps in the rear. Consequently, I can't pull the ecu connector with the motor. Any helpful hints or suggestions? Lessons learned are greatly appreciated.

FWIW, I have an overhead 1/2 ton chain hoist in my garage, and I'm concerned about how high the motor has to be to clear the nose of the car with the tranny attached. Also, can the tranny be pulled out with the shifter installed?

Goodluck with the rebuild. I would contact Brad Mayo from supraforums, he recently pulled the motor for a na-t job. He may have the advice you need.

the shifter has to be out
i used a standard cherry picker w/arm @ full
extension
top of engine was maybe 6' from the floor
w/ the oil pan skimming the rad support
on the way out - easier to have someone
grab the tailshaft & level the assembly
then roll the car out from under it
put the gte/6 speed back the same way
shame about the fuel pump wiring
you'll play hell undoing all the engine
sensors/connectors
i'd redo the fuel pump stuff before
taking the harness off the engine

When you say "the shifter has to be out", does that mean it has to be *removed* prior to pulling the motor? Also, you make a good point about the wiring harness coming out, too. I'll probably just cut the pump wires and pull the ecu connector out with the motor.

i was going w/ your way of pulling the engine/trans
as a whole unit - its much easier
the last oil pump i did - left the trans on
& blocked the whole thing up in the air
(had a triple disc clutch - need i say more?)
the shifter handle only has to be removed
not the triangler alum. bracket that holds the shifter
(your sig says 6 speed right?)
the only other thing to be careful of is THAT bracket
off the back of the trans
when coming out / in make sure theres not too
much pressure on it or that it gets hung up on
the tunnel (its alum. & could crack or break)
the weight of everything hanging tends to shove
the trans tailshaft into the top of the tunnel as its
drug out /in
- hasnt happened yet - but safe than sorry

Yeah... I have the getrag; so I only remove the shifter but keep the shifter lever retainer in place.

It's funny you mention a triple disk clutch. I'm considering a Tilton and realize that it should be assembled with the motor and tranny out of the car.
