winter tires

I drive my RWD car to the slopes all the time. Just saying. =) AWD is overrated and clearly not as fun to drive than RWD imo.

in that case then yeah, i would get an awd. but like i said, theres an is350 awd, why not go for that? looking to buy used? the awd system is 30% F / 70% R full-time, then it turns to 50/50 when tcs decides to kick in.

in comparison to the 2IS on a rwd platform vs an awd platform, i think both feel almost identical considering the awd is still biased towards rwd. i owned a starfire pearl 6mt 2IS before this one, and the only reason why i switched is because i was employed at lexus of bellevue and got ripped off on the deal (didnt get the employee discount) and switched into the awd 2IS for the same price.

arma is the sc im talking about. it provides the best gains by far out of all the kits, but what they actually mean is $8k just for the kit. arma is saying you have to swap out other stock internals which are the headers and exhaust (w/ custom variable pressure valve). so with shipping its running actually close to $12k. with used prices on 2IS' right now, that'll easily seat you in a new IS350, unless youre one of the guys that really wants to feel the boost

anyway, if you do end up getting the arma sc youll be very exclusive which is a + hahaha. dont push it above 8psi because youll already be running a bit lean. once you hit 10psi, youll blow your motor. do a search, some guy did it with a turbo and started from 5 (fine), 8 (lean), 10 (boom). watch out, though, like lobuxracer said in another thread, no one knows the limits of the A760 gearbox, and hes right to assume its probably not much over stock.

let us know what decision you make. its gonna be fun to see another person dumping dough on their 2IS

hahaha dumping dough is what i do best! . 12k is a hefty amount though :S... if the awd system really is 30-70... then may as well get a 350?... agh.. maybe i should start a thread on rwd snow driving... how well it does.. thats the ONLY thing im worried about. i dont want to get stuck in the utah snow.... but come to think of it, my buddy drives his 96 camaro down there all year long.. snow/sun... no problems. I need to find a white is350 in the area and go drive it. still have only test drove the 250's.

on a side note.. these cars arent exactly cheap, which is why im excited to be getting one (eliminate the "rice" factor). I'm not sure if anyone on here went last night to the Pochi meet up in Lynnwood, but damn there was alot of rice/garbage that showed up. ruined the whole thing for me. ANYWAYS, all this being said...

What does everyone do for a living? just curious, plus im looking for second job.

Thughes...RWD in the snow is all about tires and drivers. If you can drive in the snow, RWD is fun. If not, then AWD should be everyones choice in this state. Seems like everyone is scurred to drive in the rain, let alone in the snow.

I just picked up Conti DWS all seasons for my IS300. I cant wait to test them out in the mtns to go snowboarding. Ive been driving her up to the mtns for the past 4 yrs that I have owned her. She does great, as long you dont WOT going up hill.

i learned to drive in idaho, in 8ft of snow... im a great driver, unlike 90% of the people in the NW... I just wanted AWD for convenience... rwd in snow isn't hard.. awd is just easier... ha

imo, you said it right. awd is more convenient, but rwd is capable. theres a monster thread somewhere in the 2IS section regarding RWD and snow, and everyones doing just fine (east coasters included). part of it probably has to do with the fact that they arent PNW drivers. either way, just mount some blizzaks on and you should be fine since youve had experience driving in snow already.

are you looking to buy new or used? regardless, just test drive a new one lol

glad to see weve got another impulse spender when it comes to mods

is3_ftw: i wish the is350 were going to be released in a 6mt haha

ps. to answer your question i used to work in parts at lexus of bellevue, then ended up quitting to focus on school. in the meantime, i make a living at the casino

Just don't get too confident in an AWD vehicle. The things many inexperienced drivers in a awd vehicle think they can drive in the snow and then all of sudden they lose control and panic...then once the vehicle starts skidding, the driver has no control over the vehicle.

With a RWD....you still have control of the steering if the vehicle is skidding out of control. Imagine driving around a corner....and the car is sliding...fwd and awd will slide and continue to slide straight....rwd you will slide and can still manage to steer around the corner....

Yes, I have personally driven fwd, awd and rwd vehicles in the snow. =) I am not pulling this out of my......... lol

its not the ride, its the rider... I took my sc out couple years ago and all i had to do to get sideways was crank the wheel and just wait to counter, at that point i decided to go with a DD. Its not that you can or cant drive but just think about someone else driving into you
