Default Program Homelink to work with Chamberlain Opener

After the exciting moment taking possession of my new/pre-owned '16 nx200t (F Sport Series 2), I had some difficulty programming to work with my old Chamberlain (P/N 41A5021-1F). Although I successfully got it done, I thought I can lay out the process for any further inputs, also to look it up later if necessary in this NX forum.

1. Set/reset a Homelink button to LEARN Mode by press and hold the selected button (1 of 3) for 20 seconds, until the flashing ORANGE LED appears.
Since mine is a off-lease NX, when I first pressed, flashing green appeared. The provided Quick Guide (p. 88) did not provide the info on 20 sec press and hold to reset and thus relearn for a new garage door opener, the video on Homelink web site told me this.

2. Using the hand opener to "train" the Homelink on the NX did not work for me. I tested how I program the hand opener with the garage door opener, figured out how it works, then applied to the NX Homelink, then it worked.
First, I pressed the Red button at the Chamberlain, the LED next to it was turn ON. Then, I went to the NX, turned engine ON, kept pressing the Home button until the indicator changed from Orange to Flashing Green (Flasing means rolling codes).

3. Pressed the programmed button 2X to activate, pressing it again should operate the garage door. This detail is rather strange as described in Homelink. I don't recall I did it with so many attempts. So when it worked, it worked. Thus this post is intended to find out the complete and correct procedure, although I don't know if it is needed again

Thanks for your time!
Dave

On several occasions, I found that using instructions posted on garage door opener website vs car manual works better for me.

If you program a button that is already programmed it should override the old device. It wasn’t clear from the manual that you had to do BOTH procedures, use your remote and then use the learn button on the opener. Once I did both it programmed easily.

If you have two vehicles you’ll likely have to reprogram the other one after setting up your NX.

I didn’t need to reprogram the other vehicle or the hand held remotes after programming the NX. Last year I traded in an older car for a new pickup and did not have to reprogram the NX or the other remotes. There is an “erase” button on our openers. If that is pushed, all openers/cars will need to be reprogrammed.

I have a Genie. Must be why I had to reprogram our other vehicle.
