Default Hassle of prepaid maintenance plan

Hey guys,

I purchased a prepaid 2 years maintenance plan when I purchased the car , on the receipt it states the period "2 years or 20k miles" , I paid $750 for it

But when I go to do 25k miles service today , the dealership said my prepaid plan only covers up to 20k , so I have to pay them this time.

Since the first 2 times service (5k , 10k) were covered by lexus , I feel I got ripped off .

Did you guys meet this before?
please advise, thanks

No, you did not get ripped off. You SIGNED for it. YOU. Dealer didn't place gun to your temple, did he? They offered and you accepted. Did or did you not know that you get 2 first services free from Lexus and if you did, why did you sign for it then?

I may be missing something here. Does the service plan only cover scheduled maintenance? I'm trying to think of how it could possibly be used. If the only scheduled maintenance is at 5K, 10K, and 25K. The dealer/Lexus already pays for the first 2 services and 25K is too late? The only way I can see that making any sense at all is if the maintenance plan covers something else that isn't already covered by the warranty. Why would they even offer that plan, and who would buy it? I have to be missing something!

Actually , when I purchased the car , at the signing step , the seller did say this plan covers the maintenance after the first year , but he only said it , I didn't ask him to leave any paper work or something , because I trusted him , or I never thought of a big company like lexus would do this kind of trick.

In the US , I think to trust people in this way , is normal , or maybe I am just stupid , I learn a lesson now , just a little bit pricey.

Yes , only scheduled maintenance.
Neither the receipt nor their website states that it covers from the second year , that leaves some kind of room to confuse people.
Looks like I am the only one got ripped off here?

So you did get your 15k (18months) and 20k (24 months) service?

so basically, 2 scheduled services for $750.

Yes, that maintenance plan basically covers only the 15,000 and 20,000 mile services and only if they are done during the first 2 years of vehicle ownership.

If done at a Lexus dealer, the total cost of the 15,000 and 20,000 mile services should be somewhere around $125-150. If done elsewhere, such as at a Toyota dealer, the total cost of those two services would be around $50-75.

Pre-paid maintenance plans are among a group of items that dealers try to sell car buyers and, essentially, they are all items that are almost pure profit for the dealership.

#LESZ is 100% correct!!
Prepaid maintenance plans are complete and utter garbage along with gap protection (likely carried under a good auto insurance provider), paint and fabric protection...

At 15,000, I go in an ask for a tire rotation that is around $25. At 20,000, I go in an ask for a tire rotation and the labor for an oil change which they charge me $30. I bring my five quart jug of Mobil 1 purchased at Walmart for $23 and get a $12 rebate from Mobil 1 and my $5 Toyota filter bought on line. Total for the two $71.

$750 for two services which include what?

I'm in awe on the whole prepaid maintenance thing people do...

Besides an oil change/tire rotation and checking fluids what exactly is the dealer preforming on these services...? People realize these are toyota's... which genuinely speaking are pretty easy to maintain. Heck even our Mercedes is pretty simple in terms of routine normal maintenance.

During our first "free" service when we went to the dealer. They changed the oil.. cool. The lady behind brought in her lexus and said she needed an oil change. The service advisor said that will be $160 and she said ok, no problem...I almost busted out laughing when I looked at my wife as we both heard this. I totally get not everyone is able to do certain things but it blows my mind how people have no problem paying the huge fees at dealers.
