I've heard where it''s almost standard equipment in Russia, but that might speak more to quality of drivers there and adherence to driving rules and etiquette being followed. I just don't get why people in the USA would need/want one and why put another treat in the vehicle for someone to want to steal.
I got one after a police officer gave me a false speeding ticket. He claimed I was doing 49 on a 25 mph street meanwhile I was 49 on a highway off ramp decreasing speed. So he clocked me on the ramp and gave a ticket. The dash camera only proved its worth when I was on a stop light and a person decided to lay down on my hood and start to yell she was hit. I let her call the police herself and explain her story and then I pointed to the dash camera. This happened in NYC, so I guess Russia isn't the only country with good dash cam stories.

I didn't cross over the A pillar from the bottom.

The cable went from the dashcam up and the into the headliner. Then I tucked it in and across the A pillar at the TOP of the A pillar. Used the plastic pry bars to make enough space so that I can shove the cable in. Then down the door side of the A pillar, not the windshield side.
