Default City MPG

Living in NYC i'm only getting 15-16 MPG i'm just curious how are others doing MPG wise in the city? Are there any secrets to getting more MPG? I always roll to the red light, and rarely floor the peddle, what else can I do to increase the MPG? This is on the 2018 NX 300 AWD

Nothing. And hybrid won't fix it, they are not really better in city stop and go traffic. That's from ex 2 hybrids owner. Buy electric, that's about it. Stop'n'go traffic in city, with idling at red lights, is mpg killer.

I would assume hybrid would be better since you can idle with engine off and ease off acceleration during traffic?

Why did you own? That doesn't make sense.

Same here in Chicago, shoots up to 25+ mpg as soon as I get into the suburbs.

Nope. Wrong assumption. I owned TWO hybrids, both suck in city. Please, I am tired to death of beating this dead horse at toyotanation. Hybrids DO NOT have better mpg in city stop and go drive. Toyota even finally admitted this and new mpg specs do show that. Folks, seriously. Maybe in some rural open road towns with no traffic, but block to block city driving in traffic, like in NYC - plleeaase.... Don't even try....Hybrids shine rolling somewhere on backraods at 45 mph. HWY traffic, stop and go, till battery lasts.
Sorry, I am really tired of this topic.

Wow! So your opinion is the only one that is right and our emperical observations are simply wrong. We are on our 4th hybrid over the past 12 years and we have seen different results than you claim. We routinely get 15 - 20% better mileage in city driving than highway driving. Again, this is just observation and has been consistent across 4 different hybrids. That of course varies with driving style.

I am not necessarily suggesting a hybrid is for everyone. The economic proposition is nearly impossible to justify at today’s fuel prices. I just cannot agree with your conclusions based on our experiences.

no i feel in eco mode more gas is wasted with the car struggling to accelerate and causing me to press the peddle harder.
