Default Ran my key fob through the washer and dryer

...and it still works. I think the trick was running it through the dryer. Dodged an expensive bullet.

The keyfob is actually gasketed pretty well, i would say its made to be water resistant at a minimum. You usually run into problems with running electronics getting wet, since the keyfob is only really on when its close to the car or buttons are being pressed, as long as the water was dried out before it caused any issues it should be ok. I would take it apart, take the battery out and clean it with a toothbrush and rubbing alcohol to make sure no soap or anything is left behind to oxidize.

My wife did that about 2 years ago, it still works normally. I changed the batts on both fobs about a year ago, no signs if water in the fob at all.

I did take it apart and took the battery out and cleaned it. I think what may have saved it is that it had a leather sleeve which essentially covered most of the seals.

I dropped mine from another car into the dog's water bowl. No harm no foul.
