Lexus Enform 2.0 to update with Apple CarPlay

But yes, I'm with you, for Lexus to 'fine print' available after is kind of sucky on their part. And to make a major running change is kind of sucky as well. They must be playing a serious game of catch up....hence the 2018-19 update.

What if you bought a Silver iPhone in January and Apple released a new color in February? Would you be ticked because you preferred that color more? If I buy product 'A' with 'X' features, then 'X' features is what I paid for. Keep in mind that Apple is no longer supporting anything older than Gen6 iphones.

Hi! I'm new to the Lexus family and clublexus.com (I just bought my first Lexus woohoo!)
Anybody have any updates on Apple CarPlay being retro-upgraded for pre-Oct 2018 Lexus NX? I too fell victim to the "2019 NX has Apple Carplay except for the one you happened to get" issue. After seeing this thread, I specifically chatted with the local lexus technician advisor at the dealership and they said they haven't heard anything about an April 2019 retro-upgrade rollout.
Also side note - I looked at my side door and my car was manufactured in June 2018 but just sold to me now in Jan 2019 with 6 miles on it. Seems like a long time between manufacture date and sell date. Is this suspicious at all, or pretty normal?

TL : DR : your vehicle was new, Toyota corp wont risk breaking regulations to shove old relabled products.

To answer everyone here, I got the official word that no, there will be no simple upgrade for the NX models before 2019. I talked extensively with a few of the technical specialists about this. Kind of upset because when I bought my 2018 NX300 Fsport they used that as a selling point for me, because I am not a fan of the Lexus Navigation. Well time comes around and sure enough you cannot upgrade. They explained it to me that it is not a simple "software" upgrade like I did to my BMWs in the past. It is a hardware upgrade, and you need to tear apart the car to perform it. They will not be offering this as a retrofit either, as I was telling them I am willing to pay for parts and whatever is needed, but they said it simply won't be available.
The 2019 models are split, with the first half not coming with Apple Carplay and the later half will have it installed.
So to officially answer you, no this will not be an upgrade available to people with 2018 models and lower. I don't know where some people got their answers here, but others here definitely seem to have it right that it will not be offered.

No, they are not. Don't know where this information came from... but just so it doesn't mislead other people on here, there won't be an upgrade. Lexus cannot simply "add" because this isn't a software upgrade. It's a total hardware head unit upgrade, and they are not offering the retrofit.

After speaking with them for a long time this weekend they said the 2019 models were split. So the ones made early won't have it, but the ones with it are just now rolling in. They said the headunits are completely different between the two models. I don't think they'll offer it as a retrofit just because the amount of work it takes, pretty much have to tear up the whole front of the car. If they do, it might have an outrageous price tag. But I'm going with what they told me, that it won't be available. Unless the other guy who said April 2019 is a serious Lexus insider with a ton of knowledge of this issue, I would remain skeptical. Also, the way he stated "April 2019 Lexus will update all" makes it seem like he thinks this is a simple software upgrade, not the case here.
I have a very good standing with my dealership and they are trying to right the wrong of the salesman who told me Carplay would be an upgrade for my car, they feel very bad about it. So if it was available or plans to make it that way, I know they would tell me for sure. Of course I'm hoping I'm wrong on all this, but after my few hour visit and chats, I did not get a positive feeling about the issue...

We’ll see if skyshadow responds. He seemed pretty confident they would be upgraded.
Have you been speaking with Lexus corporate or employees at a dealership?
I have a 2019 built in August. I find it hard to believe the hardware would change that drastically within the same model year.

To me this makes no sense. Apple car play is a piece of software. The only thing i can think of is the current head unit is not powerful enough to run it. Maybe need more ram or something. On USB side maybe you need usb 3.0 and the old models only have 2.0.

I don't know what to believe at this point but skyshadow is pretty active on this forum. I think he may work for Lexus.
