If this is simple software update, why wouldn't Lexus do it, update, for all cars with Enform? I doubt they will, but as you said - Will see.

It's funny how they charge $100 extra for apple carplay to be added on. I hope they do an upgrade program. I wonder if it will be an usb upgrade hub like on the Ford Mustang.

Quote from Lexus Enthusiast:
Lexus has quietly added Apple CarPlay & Amazon Alexa functionality to LS sedans, LC coupes, RC coupes, and NX crossovers built after October 2018.
While the selection may seem random, they all share the same Enform 2.0 software platform. When asked about vehicles built prior to October, Lexus USA spokesperson Ed Hellwig said “Existing owners will not be able to update their systems with CarPlay

How freaking annoying is that. GD! Way to go Lexus on no update... rolls eyes.
I'm not even going to bring this up to my wife. As far as she knows it doesn't have it/never did so if I told her that the new ones do especially just some odd months after she got hers she'd be pissed.

In Australia Mazda is allowing upgrade to Apple CarPlay for vehicles from January 2014. They’re charging $350 US, and a 45 min booking time in the dealership for a ‘software and hardware’ upgrade. Can only assume the hardware upgrade is very minor given the brief turn around time.
Lexus Australia is ‘considering’ a similar plan.
Even Ford Sync 3 systems can be upgraded.
As much as I enjoy Lexus, in Australia, they’re quickly falling behind the competition. The main stream brands in Australia are offering greater dealer support, longer warranty periods and better vehicle options. The luxury brands offer vehicles with better tech, utility and power choices.
No backward comparability for Apple CarPlay may be a future deal breaker.

I’m currently gathering quotes for a new nx (think I narrowed it down to 1 dealership, now I want to see what local dealership will do) and was told that only the NX F Sport models built October onwards will have CarPlay. No idea if she is right, so take it with a grain of salt.
Also, do you think we will have to pay to have CarPlay in the car?

Agree, but the OP might have bought the car from the lot or not, either a 2018 or 2019 (not stated) or coming from another dealer lot, in these cases I presume it's not built BEFORE Oct 1st. If the order is a custom built to be delivered at a later date it could be build after Oct 1 ... So I guess it is for the OP to find out and provide his own answer.
