Nx200t rear hatch stuck open after battery disconnect. FIX
Posting this here for those that might come across this scenario.
FIX.
- Rear hatch left open
- Battery was disconnected for longer than 15 minutes.
- Re-connect battery.
FIX.
- Disconnect battery.
- Manually move the hatch down 1/2 way, moving it very slowly not to damage the two actuators.
- Using a tool to mimic the latch, engage the locking mechanism in the hatch.
- Make sure the latch in the hatch clicked all the way to completion, exactly like it would if the hatch door closed like normal. (Mine gave two clicks)
- Reconnect the battery
- The computer now thinks the rear hatch is closed, buts 1/2 open.
- Cycle the open / close process to re-orient the door properly.

Thanks so much for this tip. My liftgate was inoperable after disconnecting the battery for only a few seconds. This tip saved my butt. It could have taken a trip to the dealer and probably a few $100s. It should be free since this is obviously a code bug that should have been fixed years ago.
One exception: After I did this, I pressed the liftgate button and the gate went all the way up to it’s upper limit (not the one I had set). I pressed the button again and it lowered to about 1 Ft. above the closed position. Then is wouldn’t move up or down.
I went into Vehicle Settings, turned off liftgate power and manually lowered it till it latched. Then I restored power in Settings. From that point on – operation returned to normal.

Viktor G's video show how to change battery on NX300h he just force close the hatch to sync the door again. Didn't have to disconnect the battery again. Not sure if this the same for none H model.

Old post but I figured out I can update with latest: Had the same issue – rear hatch stuck open all the way up, after replacing 6-year-old battery. Pressing button to close I only heard double beep and no action. All I did was slowly push rear hatch down to closed position, heard click and it locked in. Restarted the car and hatch was working.
