Upper console disassembly
Anyone know how to remove the upper console? The thing where the front dome lights and reading lights are... Was thinking of drilling a small hole and put a small led there to shine onto the center console as an ambient light... Had one in my fd2 Civic which was really nice.

Sorry for an update without any pictures.
I managed to get the console off easily, thanks to DiscoMnky. Found out that the entire this is a solid construct with no way to drill anywhere in the middle, so the only option was the frontmost flange. Got a 2mm drill bit and drilled a small hole about 3mm in from the front most edge. Mounted a flat cob blue led there and ... that was it as far as my courage took me. Sent it to an accessory shop to get the wiring done. Once that was done, I took it out an night and realised that the light was simply too. damn. bright. Removed it, put a piece of white duct tape over it to dim it greatly and remounted everything.
The final result is a very dim and calming blue glow lighting the entire center console when it's pitch black outside. It's dim enough that I can't capture it on camera, but it's noticeable in person.
I'm happy!

Here are some pictures I managed to get. Hope they are ok.
Here's a picture of the light itself.
Of course it doesn't look THAT bright irl. Its a camera thing.
Here are some similar pictures taken with flash. These are more realistic.
Here's a picture of the center console with my finger blocking the light so you have a view of what it originally looks like.
And here's a picture of the same area with the ambient light uncovered.
