Default Got hit from behind but there is no damge。

Hi guys! a very quick question about fender-bender

I was at red light yesterday. When it turned to green and BUMP the car behind me hit me cause he thought i went already.(it sorta like a tap, not super big hit) I was so mad at first, but after I walked out and there is no damage at all, I am very confused. I double checked this morning too, and nothing wrong at all for the rear bumper. Do you guys think I should bring the car to dealer to check it out? or just leave it. Driving seems normal too.

Thanks guys for checking this matter!

I had the same thing happen in my IS250 and it required a new bumper so this is good to hear! It can't hurt to have it checked over for things you can't see.

Federal regulations requires that the bumper is made to withstand 5 mph crash. Nothing should be damaged internally, but you may have some surface scratches. I would install a hitch trailer ball so that so that you get some extra protection, and the person behind will get a f--ed up bumper so that they learn not to tailgate..

Thank you for the good information! no wonder there is nothing wrong at all, and yeah I think the small tap is no more than 5 mph. At first, i was like to take to body shop to check, but I really can't find any damage and just didn't bother. If nothing should wrong inside, then i will just leave it haha. Thanks again

The bumper should be able to take an impact of 2.5mph without damage, and 5mph with only cosmetic damage.

No wonder there is no damage, I even standing in the sun to check it and there is not even a small mark on the black rear bumper. I was surprised. Thanks for the help!

Chances are you still have paint damage. While it may not appear now, as the weather changes and your clear coat expands and contracts, it will eventually crack, and it will be too late to make a claim to insurance.

My wife's IS was hit a couple months ago in the same situation. You could see a small line of deep clear coat cutting, which would eventually propagate to a crack. They re-cleared the entire bumper.

Also, if you have an AWD, go get your rear alignment checked. My wife's was slightly off. Could it have been like that pre-accident? Perhaps, but you have the warm and fuzzies of knowing its ok afterwards.

oh WoW! that sounds not good at all. The only reason that i didn't bother to do insurance, since it looked perfect and nothing to fix. I did went to the body shop, but they were like they see nothing at all. But I will just tell that to my service advisor for my 15k one to check the alignment which I am kind worry now. The car actually just hit my bumper, and it is super low sedan and I don't think any paint will get damage, most likely will be the plastic bumper. but yeah thanks for the information and i will for sure keep in mind.
