I haven't been able to find much information about this in either the manual or these forums. Questions about the nav software:
1. How is the software distributed? SD card, DVD, or on-line by the owner?
2. Do I have to bring it to a dealer to update?
3. How often is it updated? I read a post that said once a year.
4. Is the update for map data only or are apps updated as well?
5. Can we expect new features or options in these updates?

In Canada, the only owner-available update (besides any future TSBs) is the NAV which is via the Micro SD card under the flap below the radio unit. You buy the card for around 250$ Cdn, eject the old card, and pop in the new one.
