Hi guys, tried opening my tailgate/liftgate while car engine is still running but in park position and driver's car door is open but its doesn't open.

I tried pressing the button at the back but no response, tried the button on the driver's seat, no response, tried the button on the FOB, also no response. Tried a few times for each of the 3 buttons but no response. Decided to move off so I entered the car, closed the door and put to drive but suddenly the liftgate opened!

Does anyone knows why this is happening?

Hmmm...I'm surprised it opened. I was wondering if someone pressed a valet button in the car (usually in glovebox area).

Thanks for your reply. What happens when the valet button is being pressed? I'm still confused as to what the function of that button is for. There was no one in the car at that time, so whatever triggers the tailgate to open must be after I've stepped into the car, either: closing the driver's door, stepping on the brake, or shifting to drive gear.

Not entirely sure if the NX has a valet mode (could be something in the center display)...but it prevents the trunk from opening.

Don't believe there is a valet mode...

Were your doors locked when you were attempting to open the liftgate? It should open using the driver's access button when held for a second or so and the doors are unlocked. Except when using the remote (which is disabled when the engine is running), the liftgate will not automatically unlock. As well, the liftgate does not open with the transmission in Drive.
