Need advice from NX experts
I have followed this forum for some time now and have enjoyed all the expertise expressed. I am seriously considering trading my 13 ES350 for the 15/16 MY NX. The only Lexus dealer within 250 miles is Lexus of Mobile where I have purchased, new, a GS and two ES's. The non F-sport NX that I would buy would be pretty much loaded minus the $900 pkg with adaptive cruise. With that said, I think it would be fairly hard for my dealer to find a 15 MY, especially one with LED headlights, without special ordering. So with the MY 16 coming out soon, (I am anxious to buy now, but can wait) I wonder would it be prudent to wait for the MY 16 since the MY 15 will already be a year old within 3 or 4 months? The other question is AWD. I will never be driving in snow, and do not plan to drive off-road. My thoughts however, are that AWD is a safer car to drive on wet roads and therefore would be worth the extra price. Can someone tell me if this is true and in what way?

Couple things here...
It depends how long you want to wait. If you order now, and you don't enter the system for a month, it may hit the 2015/2016 cycle, in which you will be bumped the next model year production. If Lexus handles it like Chevy, you would then be contacted and asked to review your order with all new options and confirm the order. That way, you'd get a 2016 with any added options.
In regards to models years, I doubt there will be any difference at all really. Personally, I would consider looking at the 15 and maybe save some $$.
Finally, AWD is not any safer in the rain than FWD. This is a common mistake amongst people that want AWD. AWD will help you in heavy rain as much as it helps you on ice. AKA, none. The main advantage in rain is having proper tires and being conscious of how fast you're going.
If you're in Florida, I would say FWD would be easiest for you, unless you plan on off-roading it somewhere in the everglades lol

Echoing Swacer, unless you get a good deal on the ordered '15 you'd get in October, don't get it. Instead, sign a pre-order contract on a '16 for which you'd get the vehicle around the same time in the Fall. I ordered my NX last year in April as soon as it was unveiled in Beijing well before any pricing was out. When pricing was out in July, we firmed up the contract and got mine in December.
For MY '16, expect a 99.9% identical vehicle as MY '15. Good luck!

Corrado, So your expecting the '16 model yr NX to be out in Oct. 2015? Just curious, I haven't heard anything. Seems a short yr since the NX didn't really arrive until Jan '15. here in the US.

Many thanks guys for the advise and also the education on AWD. Believe I will forgo AWD option now and pocket the $1400. I'm also considering going for the MY16. Maybe some of the little problems discussed on other topics will be corrected by then. If a pre-order on MY16 is submitted, when do I haggle for the best deal; at time of submission of order, or when auto arrives? It seems to me that ordering prior to knowing discounted price would give me less room to bargain.

With the new RX slated for a similarly late Fall launch this year, my guesstimate is a typical early Fall launch of the '16 NX to not steal the RX's thunder. No crystal ball but history dictates next Lexus MY availability of an existing generation is typically in the October timeframe.
