However I'd love to hear from a Lexus Master Tech. [B
TSopranoMB [/B]any feedback?
I think you mean 2 psi of boost. The max amount of boost the car registers on the gauge is 15psi.

^^^ Typo, good catch.

TSopranoMB (Master Technology + Delivery Specialist) was kind enough to reach out to his Master Technician and he said the cool down is valid...especially after HARD DRIVING as per what the manual said....otherwise, normal driving conditions, no need for a cool down period.

Not a problem lol I was gonna be like....man....even 30psi of boost can require a full cast iron block and forged internals lol

And I'm not surprised by that. During normal driving, 2-3 psi of boost is relatively nothing for the turbo, usually bypassing most of the air at that point.

OP, you're talking about old school turbo cars.

Sorry to hijack - how do you like the F Sport seats?

I really do love them. I was worried about them because I had no previous knowledge of NuLuxe and would have preferred leather. However after seeing them and sitting in them I think they are great. And like a lot of people say, they supposedly hold up better.

The contour of the seats is also nice and comfortable and wraps you in. If someone is drastically overweight I would imagine they would not like them.

The only thing I don't like about them is the inability to have them ventilated.

If anyone does not want to wait out the 30sec to 3min of cool down, just install a turbo timer. Shut of the car, lock the doors and leave. The motor will still run for the preset time on the timer then shut off. It has its own security feature, that does not allow the vehicle to be driven even if the motor is still running. Parking brake goes down, motor shuts off.

Here's the scoop. In October, Lexus Canada trained dealerships on the NX including test drives and in depth product demos. My sales rep/dealer was never trained or has been told of the Turbo cool down on the NX. Personally, I do not interpret this as an oversight by Lexus trainers but in fact as a non-mandatory procedure. My dealership is now aware of the manual's P168 cooldown procedures and I suspect they may likely mention it on vehicle delivery to the customer moving forward to err on the side of caution.

In conclusion, I will use common sense here. Keep an eye on the boost gauge, and during normal city driving with minimal boost used (average under 2 psi), I will wait 5-10 seconds max while Parked before shutdown. The odd time I will drive more aggressively, I will either drive casually the last coupe of KMs home and then wait the same 5-10 seconds or simply wait several seconds more. I don't see myself idling for 2-3 minutes unless I one day take the NX on the track.

My buddy who owns a turbo says....better safe than sorry, get a turbo timer with harness.
Lost808 member mentioned the turbo timer too!

We do an inadvertent cool down with both of our cars when arriving home. Coming down our street, it's coasting or very light throttle. Ease off completely to slow down for the slight curbing at the end of the driveway. Idle up the drive and into the garage. Idle a few more seconds to make sure properly positioned. Shut off engine

As mentioned, neither owners manual mentions a cool down so it's not something I don't give too much thought to. But also, as mentioned, it can't hurt.

I agree on this practice and I also do this...I've been doing this on my XC60 T6 engine for 5 yrs now and never had any issues on the engine (only use fully synthetic oil) and no mention of turbo cool down on the Volvo manual...like on my earlier post, these are more modern turbo engines which are water intercooled and not oil cooled and when you shut off engine the turbo still spools down a few seconds after. The oil cooled turbos needed cooling down to let oil pressure settle down due to intense heat but the water intercooler already does this.

Also, when you drive engine hard say on the highways, once you get within city driving slower then that is pretty much already "cooling it down"...I guess this is Lexus' first venture in modern turbo engines that's why they are being cautious about it.

Pretty my thoughts and what I've been doing so far, with the additional (possibly unnecessary) 5-10 seconds wait time when in Park.

Interesting topic guys.. and thanks for this information, corrado. I've had my F Sport for about a week now but every time I get home in the evenings, I set the car on park, turn off the engine and immediately in my garage, I can smell a faint burnt smell.. turbo engine of course.

I typically drive 35 minutes to work each day at about 65-80mph. I guess I have to sit in the parking lot of my office building for 2-3 minutes every day to let the turbo cool down now.

^^^ Funny you mention a faint burnt smell. I noticed it a couple times in the interior and thought it was one of the seat heaters, or heated steering. I don't believe to have noticed it any other time now nor anywhere outside and my thoughts were that manufacturing residue emitted that smell and has worn off (or burned off from the heating elements). I have been driving very lightly and idling 5-10 seconds before engine shutoff and no smell outside. I'll pay closer attention the next few days...
