NX Electronics Bug - Infotainment Display, Sound, and Lock-up Issues (Merged Thread)
#46
I have been following the NX rollout closely too. Since none of this is really new technology, and since historically Lexus has high dependability ratings along with superb customer service (I have experienced this with previous Lexus ownership), I am surprised at this current situation with issues. I am especially surprised with what I am hearing specific to the dealership's response. Best of luck to those of you with issues. I am looking forward to hearing about the solution(s).

I have been following the roll out of the NX from the beginning. My empathy is completely for the BUYERS who trustingly relied on Lexus to deliver what they promised. I understand the many layers of having a car that disappoints, that does not generate a feeling of security. It must be humiliating to be offered food and motel costs when a corporation dismisses you as not telling the truth and declaring that nothing is wrong with your car. My support goes out to all of you who are having problems with the NX and are not being properly listened to by the Lexus corporation, and especially this forum. There are a few people here who attempt to censor anyone that has problems with this car. I am a hybrid guy and a Lexus owner. My next car was to be an NX. I want all of you, especially NonFormula to update us and look to us for support. Please to not listen to anyone on this forum who wants to censor you or thinks of you in anyway as being a malcontent. Lexus should figure this out. What they are putting you though is tedious, laborious, and unacceptable.
I don't get where Nonformula was told by the Lexus corporation that there was nothing wrong with the car. They have said there's an issue; hence why they provided a vehicle for him. They simply said they weren't able to reproduce it, which is suggestive that it's a software issue, maybe with Bluetooth pairing and the media system, since there have been many other posters with the vehicle with no issues at all. Until Lexus identifies the issue and tests a fix that can be safely deployed, what other sort of response would you expect them to give if they haven't' worked out what the problem is. They're working on it, and in the meantime they've offered lodgings and an appropriate loan vehicle. I'm not quite sure what else they could do. My friend's M4 cropped out a month into ownership with a DCT issue, and BMW only begrudgingly offered him a Hyundai loan car for the 3 weeks that the car was in the shop.
Of course, it'd be better if there wasn't an issue, but in the meantime, let's be constructive about finding a solution.

Nav freezing
I had my Nav system freeze fairly regularly and was able to show it to the dealership while it was frozen. They took pictures and checked the various codes which while frozen showed that it has no problems. They contacted Lexus and now I am getting a new Nav system, they are replacing the entire centre stack.

As unhappy and disappointed as I am about them tearing into my dash - same here - new Nav/Radio unit to be installed. I also had no error codes on the service dept system supposedly. They told me this is the Lexus way forward - replace Nav/Radio unit and that it seems to have been effective in other NXs with this issue.

I'm happy that they are going to fix this issue but I hate that they are tearing your dash apart to do it. I just hope the dealer has the same attention to detail as the assembly guys in Japan. As bad as I hate to say it, I doubt they do.
So I guess we know now that it is a hardware issue from the nav supplier. If it was a wire harness issue it looks like they could replace the harness and not the entire nav system.

Just to kinda close out this issue.... it has moved over to another thread:

Specifically my NX Nav/Radio unit was replaced, and hopefully no more Electrical bug in the future.

Sound system
Hi all new to the forum and new lexus owner. I just got a nx200t f sport with premium sound system. I picked up the car a day and a half ago and before i even drove off the dealership lot the radio would not play. Now forwarding to the following day the radio system works but the sound quality sounds distorted and not crystal clear. This problem also occurs with any media playback such as bluetooth, mp3, etc. i have an appointment to get the car checked out but i was wondering if anyone can shed some advice on this issue. Thank you in advance.

It happened to me!
Well it finally happened to me. Audio went from 15 to 60 on the volume & the entire navigation system & all ***** froze. Had to drive it to the dealer music blasting. Then after I arrived, it lowered by itself a little, but as soon as my salesman got in it to try to make the screen work BAM! He got out of it to tell me he couldn't get the screen or anything to move & then it got 20 times louder, all by itself. The technology specialist & mechanic both ran over & were like The mechanic was like, I can't take it, we've gotta shut it off. They're ordering a entire new navigation entertainment head I was given a Non-F-Sport loaner until mine is repaired. My biggest concern & fear is that they may not put it back together like it was originally. I did have them connect & test it during the "tech session" that they do with you for almost an hour to familiarize you with everything. It didn't occur then. So that's certainly not a guarantee it may not happen to others as I'm a perfect example of that. But I think we all know that Lexus is a great company & will stand behind their product. So I'm sure they're working on a fix. Because the last thing they need is negative publicity on a new model vehicle.

Sorry to hear it. The nav/radio replacement on mine fixed everything (with the electronic bugs that is - my "brand new car" ego was shot straight to hell though).

Thanks for the sympathy dude. Yeah, it's kinda embarrassing when coworkers/friends are like "Where's your new car?" or "You've only had that car for 2 weeks and you're having issues with it already?"

My radio unit was replaced on Friday for the freeze issue. There were no issues with them putting it back together. It only took them an hour.
Obviously, I haven't had enough time to see if the problem still exists.

Another Frozen System
Wow...this really seems to be an issue...just picked up my NX on Saturday...and used voice activation to access and tune to a satellite station. That worked fine...then I used the steering wheel control for volume, and that's when everything froze. I mean everything...nav, radio, Enform, volume control via buttons even...than goodness I did not have the sound turned up! I returned home, shut the vehicle off and turned it back on, and everything was unfrozen.
Disappointed...

Yes, this is an issue, but appears to be very isolated. I notified my dealer service area after the first time, and then scheduled service after the second time.
You can unfreeze while driving by pressing in the power button on the radio for a few seconds. Then the system reboots.
