Engine won't start after remote start

Just found this condition today where the car won't start even if you have your key remote with you.
Try this and see if you experience the Engine no start condition. Mine is NX350h

1. Lock car and make sure key remote is away from car.
2. Use Lexus app to remote start.
3. After 15 sec or more, use Lexus app to stop engine.
4. Use Lexus app to unlock.
5. With your Lexus key remote open the already unlocked door sit inside and press brake pedal and start button. The car will not start. I tried a few times and same result.

To start the car again you need to either press the unlock button on remote once or lock then unlock the car with your key remote or smart touch.

What do you think? Is this a software bug or it's supposed to be like that for safety reasons.

Was there a message to place your key next to the start/stop switch? I’ve seen this behavior a few times when just unlocking the car with the app and trying to start it. I believe it’s an anti theft feature.

This happened to me one morning. I called the dealer and talked to a couple service people and they had me try several things that didn't work. While I had them on the phone I locked and unlocked the doors (trying anything I could think of) with the key fob and it started. I don't know if thats for theft prevention or a bug.

It is not an issue, it is safety feature, every time you remote start the car, when you get in you have to touch the start button with the fob or card in order to drive the car.

It sounds like a bug. I don't see anything related to "safety" in it. Normally it would show a message on instrument display if something is off.

The remote fob or card must be on your person to start the car. This is so someone can’t use a slim-Jim to unlock & open the door, then push start & make off with your vehicle. My remote does not leave my purse, so you do not HAVE to physically touch your remote to
unlock prior to starting the vehicle. I cannot fathom why you would want to unlock with your app. I start my 350h from the Lexus app, then put my phone back in my purse (with the remote). I have always touched the door handle to unlock and have NEVER had a problem starting the car after entry.

And it's in the original poster situation "even if you have your key remote with you".

While I don't know anymore than the other posters, I would safely say you were replicating a certain scenario that could lead to a hijacking of your vehicle safety system. The system won't allow you to take off in the car without some further evidence that it's you and not someone who has duplicated your remote signal to help the car confirm it's you. The key fobs used on this model and other Lexus models use UWB (Ultra Wide Band technology) to help prevent theft. This helps greatly to confirm your location to the car, meaning if at first the car locates your remote fob is a certain distance away, then all of a sudden it sees the fob in the car, that situation could mean someone has lifted the keyfob signal. Now layer that with your remote app in play too and the car will 'double check' that the app hasn't been hijacked and simply asks the user to confirm they are actually in the car with the correct keyfob signal and not just someone who has used the app to start car and drive off.

If you receive a message to put the keyfob up against the start button that's because the fob battery is getting low and needs replacing.
