Default Video on our infotainment.

Got to be away to play video on our system, Grandson just bought an aftermarket infotainment for his older Toyota forerunner and outside of CarPlay he can play videos somehow.

just curious if anyone knows anything more about it.

Sadly that’s a negatory.
Toyota has always been about safety, and they would never allow something like that. Im
pretty sure no auto automaker allows this via conventional methods. I know my Honda doesn’t, and neither an F150 with the massive screen.

while I’d love the ability to do it when parked, I do not think that will ever happen. Aftermarket systems are an exception, as they can basically do what they want and usually run some flavour of Android.

I should have prefaced my response with "not possible with stock" - which is still the case. You can't use the stock system without AA (or supposedly some dongle that exists) to watch videos - but even those aren't the native Lexus experience.

So yes, OP, it is possible if you use AA, or something else - but nothing stock.

Apple will never support video playback using CarPlay.
