Default Run flat tires

What are your thoughts on the 2022 NX being equipped with run flat tires. No spare, noise, performance. Will there be room for a spare, probably not from what I see.

The LS500h also has run flat tires and it drives ok and it's not that noisy. However, the NX may not have as much noise reduction materials and from some videos we can hear the noise of the tires. But they all are driving prototypes and really don't know if the final build would be better. I've driven for almost 30 years and only used my spare tire one time. I return my car and the spare tire is brand new. I rather just have a repair kit or just call for help at times when you need a spare. It saves space, less weight and most importantly not waste rubber that is just sitting there for years and nobody uses it.

I know some who are enthusiast who only look at 0-60 numbers and how well the vehicle handles would complain about run-flat tires, because of it's performance and noise. If you really don't like it, change them out and get regular rubber with a repair kit and put it in the extra space under the floor. Problem solved.

I would hope having a spare would at least be an option, as it is on other vehicles with run flats.

I have run flats on my 2019 UXh - meh. I will probably replace them with regular tires when it's time to get new and carry a can of Fix a Flat. I I want the softer, quieter ride. Honestly, when was the last time you had a flat tire?

The Fix a Flat, unfortunately, will not work with all flats. If you get a flat for which the Fix a Flat doesn't work, you had better hope that it happens close to a repair service that can come out and get you going with another tire. Plus, if you do use it, it makes a real mess inside the tire that is difficult to clean up when doing a proper repair.

Well, that may be a trade off for a better ride. I don't remember the last time I had a flat tire, so I'm willing to gamble that if I do the Fix a Flat works for me, or I can get a tow service to help.

They've been talking about this for years on the bimmer forums. The run flats when punctured many times require a replacement tire, especially with low-profiles. If it were ****-retentive me, I would have to measure the tread depth on the opposite tire and have the new tire shaved accordingly. The chances of getting a puncture are the same with standard tires and if the fix-a-flat and inflator works then you saved a tire.

Thumbs up No Spare

Well, Run-Flat tires are a little ruffer ride and when they start to wear down I will replace them with non-run flat tires with a much better ride and control ( in most cases). However, I will watch tread on the run-flat tires a little closer and replace them when it gets does to around 4/32 inches just to be safe. I have been away from Lexus for a while since my 2011 CT200h, I have gone to manual shift AWD performance cars. In each of them, there was no spare tire. I was able to modify the trunk area and add a spare tire and jack. I had to use the spare one time in 5 years and it was kind of a freak occurrence. There was a pothole on an exit ramp that bent a rim.

I am pretty confident in the run-flat, but will just replace them and subsequent tire before tire tread gets real close to the end of life.

Run flats are awful and their tread life is even worse.
