Hello.
Let's say i downloaded and set the digital key on my phone,
will the rfid( or whatever radio transmission ) will be on on my phone always ? Is it nfc? Or bluetooth ? Can i turn it off when i don't need to use it?
did anyone have problems using it?
thanks
It's Bluetooth Low Energy.
You can always terminate the app from running in background. E.g. in Android press III and Close All.
It's isn't super reliable to trust as the only way to open the car maybe. But good enough for backup.
You can adjust digital key sensitivity/distance in the App, I set it higher.

Current generation keyfobs go to sleep anyway if left still. Relay attack is old, newer thieve gadgets and methods are available on the black market.
I think the app asks you to confirm with fingerprint if you come to the car after a while. I would expect it to be as much secure as the keyfob if not more.
p.s. Except RAV4 2026, which reportedly has Ultra Wide Band. Which allows more precise distance measurement, making relay unfeasible. iPhone also has NFC from power reserve if battery dies.
Other models should follow too as new generations are released.
I believe that in order for you to use your digital key, you got to open your app, if your app is not running, you can't do anything and nothing is transmitting

I have downloaded the digital key for my 2025 NX 450h several times. I don't use it very often, but it continues to drop off and promps me to download again. I have no idea why...

Lexus has been using ultra wide band key fobs for a while now. My fobs for my '22 350h uses them.
