Default Collision (not) Detected

Last night, I was in a bus lane next to the curb in preparation to turn into a driveway, driving at a lowish speed of <25mph. As I was looking to the right, I failed to notice a row of three-inch-wide by three-feet-tall white bollards on the left side of the lane. They were spaced perhaps five feet apart, and I only became aware of them after (I think) the tops began striking my rear view mirror. After inspection, I found about three door dings and a crease in a vertical line near the back edge of the driver door; it could have been much worse!

Since I have an 450h+ with its additional side bumper sensor and cameras, is too much to expect that the automatic collision detection system should have saved me? I suppose it's in a disclaimer somewhere, but for as many times as I've had the brakes slam on when I don't see anything, it's a little disappointing.

I think the side ultrasonic sensors only work at parking speeds, not sure of the number, but much lower than 25 mph. Above that your collision detection is the front radr, front camera and the 4 corner blind spot monitoring radars (Assuming you have front blind spot detection option on your car.

Does NX 450h+ come fully loaded? on NX 350h all these are options that need to be purchased.

Ya got that right, 75% of the manual section referring to the driver assist systems talks about all the ways in which the system won't prevent an accident. But specifically to your situation, bollards are not considered a "detectable object" for the pre-collision system, only vehicles, bikes/motorcycles, and pedestrians. Fixed objects like bollards fall under the purview of the parking assist systems and only operate at low speeds. Maybe instead of white, the bollards should be painted to resemble people.

LSS+ 3.0 really monitors front and backup collisions. The sides are not monitored or will it stop you from hitting a car if you do not look at the blind spot. The blind spot monitoring will blink, but it won't stop you from hitting the object. Even if you have FCTA or LCA or all the features of LSS+3. We might see more advancements in the upcoming LSS+ 4, but no system will prevent side impacts.

(b) Models with Advanced park

(1) The detection area of the sensors and camera is limited to the area surrounding the bumpers. When the vehicle is moving forward or backward, make sure to directly check the safety of the area outside of the sensor and camera detection area (particularly the sides of the vehicle) and use the brake to maintain a sufficiently slow vehicle speed.

(2) Depending on the stationary objects, correct notification may not be indicated via display or buzzer. Be careful not to contact.
