Default Tailgate back door not closing. Help!!!

Hi all. I have a 2025 Lexus NX 350. I went on vacation in the winter for about 6 days and when I got back the power lift gate would double beep when I try to close it…. It happened intermittently for about a week and now it’s persistent. It opens fine, but neither button on the door or button by driver will work. Nothing in the trunk. It just double beeps. I have to close it manually. Any ideas what the problem is and how to fix?

it’s in the manual somewhere but with the hatch open, press and hold the close button. Eventually it will beep a few times, more than two I believe, and it should be reset.

Perhaps you are standing too close to the sensors which will stop the tailgate from closing on you.

They can’t be close to the sensors if they’re pressing the button by the drivers seat.

That tailgate could a problematic sometime. You can stand too close, you can stand too far, you can move away too fast... lol Maybe there is something wrong and you need to reinitialized it by pressing the open/close button next to your steering wheel. Then form the back press the close button and stick you head for a second inside like you grabbing something in your trunk and then step away. That usually works for me.

It may need to be retaught as well. Call the dealer and ask if there's a procedure you can perform to reteach the power lift motors. FYI power door windows can do this sometimes as well and they can be retaught. Both of them have safety features to prevent you from getting hurt during the power up or down motion.

Within the rubber seals around the rear hatch there is a threshold device and if you squish the seal it will stop the close motion.

See post #79 here on RX. https://www.clublexus.com/forums/rx-...-issues-6.html

Also here's the 'touch sensor' shown on a Rav 4 The NX will look similar
Start around time stamp 3:30 as he mentions it and shows how to remove. Your dealer may have to investigate if either of these are not working as they should.

Hi, we are having exactly the same issue, did you ever get this fixed?

Mine did the same thing. Per the dealer which was covered under warranty. It was 84280-F6010 (Sensor Assy, Power B) and 84270-F6010 (Sensor Assy, Power B) they replaced them in Jan of this year and I haven't had any issues since 👍

Yes, see my post # 6 above and related video. They look like just rubber seals along the right and left hatch door structure, but contain a sensor setup, each connected to a control box, if the rubber is 'squished' meaning it begins to pinch something like a hand or object, it stops the auto door close feature and returns to fully up typically. When something goes wrong with this feature you will simply get the beeps and no close motion.

We have 3-week old 2025 NX 350h, and cannot understand the rear hatch ‘locking button’ as it sometimes fails when after we walk away…randomly never get a second beep? Once recently, the hatch would not close using either hatch button, nor interior button, but then did close after returning to the back and trying the ‘kick’ sensor?? Also, observed it closing, yet not latching until we put into gear?

Besides that, today, the radio audio went away, after selecting multiple audio sources, audio level eventually returned??

The car seems to have mind of it’s own? Could such operations being paused due to over-the-air updates??

We have similar issues with ouir 2025 NXX350h AWD Lux… (Copper Crest/Caramel Interior).. If only it was consistant! It once would not close with rear ‘open/close’ button’, ‘locking close button’ nor interior ‘open/close’ button, but then the ‘kick sensor’ worked??

To calibrate the power back door on a Lexus NX 350 (2023 model), you can adjust the opening height either from the door itself or through the vehicle's settings. To adjust it using the door, open the back door and stop it at your desired height by pressing the power door switch. Then, press and hold the switch again until you hear four beeps,
.
To reset it, hold the switch for about 7 seconds until you hear four beeps followed by two more. Alternatively, you can adjust it through the multi-information display or multimedia system within the vehicle

the OP is having issues with the rear hatch not wanting to close, it only beeps and doesn’t move. You have provided the procedure to change the opening height, which has 3 preset positions of low medium or high openings.

Default Same issue

Our 2024 NX-350h has the same issues reported by "Robynkg" - Initially, the "Lock" button the tailgate would not close or lock the tailgate. Next, the "Close" button on the tailgate would not close it. Last, the "Kick Sensor" stopped being able to close the tailgate. Tried "re-setting" the system per above posts - no difference. Made a service appointment with the Lexus dealer, described the symptoms, and over the phone the Lexus Service Dept. employee tells me "Sounds like your 'pinch sensors' need to be replaced." Seems they are well aware of the symptoms and remedy. Bought the car in the other morning, and after a 2.5 hour wait and diagnosis, confirmed that both "pinch protection sensors" require replacement - parts on order, covered under warranty. At least they threw in a complimentary car wash.

After three weeks Lexus dealer informed me parts (84280-F6010, 84270-F6010 - "Sensor Assembly - Power B) came in. About 1 hour labor to install. Covered by warranty, though I saw just the parts were billed to Lexus at over $1,000. All rear liftgate opening options work - dash button, close and lock on liftgate, and kick sensor. Had the Service Rep demonstrate all opening and closing options for me to ensure proper operation of each. See a few others on this thread with similar issues - make sure you have it repaired during warranty period.
