Dealer add on
Has anyone been able to buy a car without dealer markup and add-on?
Trying to place an order for a new NXh but it seems like the dealers in my area(PNW) would rather not sell a new car unless you agree to buy their useless add-on which is just another form of markup.

It used to be that dealers would never tint new cars and the owners would have to get the tint themselves or the dealer would install it after sale, now I noticed the new cars are showing a long list of add on’s including dealer tint.
The problem is some owners may not want tint and others may not want the min 35-40% they put on or the mark up price.

Different dealers are doing things differently. Some are just MSRP. Some have an add on or several add ons. My dealer had one add on I didn't want. So I said I'd buy after market items that would exceed the add on cost so I at least got things I'd want for that cost. The dealer then deleted the add on for me. And didn't require I buy anything after market. But I know there are dealers who will not budge from their inane and very costly add ons. YMMV.
My wife waited almost half year before the vehicle arrived at the dealership. There was no mark up over MSRP but the vehicle came with several factory installed options that we didn’t asked for: head up display, ambient lighting, 12 inch infortaiment system, run flat tire, two tone interior coloring, tow hitch, etc. luckily they only charged us maybe 700 bucks for these extra thing costing well over two grands.
Now back to your inquiry about window tint. After market option is fairly cheap, you don’t have to do it at the dealer, most likely they will charge you far above market price. Do it at a specialty shop.

thanks for sharing! I see you are also in WA, May I ask which dealer did you use?

Haven't seen a hybrid NX discounted yet. Spend some time and shop around, shop out of state. People paying over MSRP just enables dealers with their markup behavior.
If you do pay MSRP make sure your rate isn't marked up on the lease money factor or finance APR.
Gas inventory is there, our buying service went to 10% off all 2023 Gas Model NXs and 4% off 2024s.

If the option is factory installed (eg. HUD), the dealer isn't ripping you off, that's just the car they got allocated. Window tint, protective films, market adjustment fees, ect. are dealer add-on's to make more money.
thanks for the input, yeah I should also look out of state.

Yeah I don’t mind if it’s hud or something part of the car. But in this case it’s like close to 4 grand of ceramic coating, door edge protection film(not even a full front cover, and additional brake light stuff like that. And they be like ‘we are not the worst, some other dealers charge even more markup.’
I bought a 2023 350h 2 weeks ago. I paid 1500 under MSRP with no add ons. With Tax + registration and all fees it was $46,082 out the door. Base model, with power lift gate (400), wheel locks (around 60 dollars but I don't recall exact amount), autowipers (125) and pearl exterior (500). I had custom ordered it 14 months before. No required add ons other than the wheel locks and powerliftgate and autowipers (which I wanted). They took off 1500 of MSRP. I also got them to include for free factory cross bars, all weather trunk mat and floor mats, and a lexus integrated dashcam parts (which I offered to install). (all together around 1400 if I bought them myself). I could have got more if I asked and turned down additional money off after I had already wired the bulk of the money. Be well informed, leave the women at home, be direct and ask for a different sales person if the first one doesn't work out, then ask for the GM if the second one doesn't. Also be direct, control the conversation, call out their shenanigans in an even tone, and simply tell them you don't like them taking advantage of the market conditions to price gouge. Treat your car dealership like your girlfriend (or wife), if you have several other side pieces on the side (or other cars/dealerships you're serious about) you will be much more in control of any negotiation. If they act up you correct them and give them a disciplining and if they continue you simply get your needs met elsewhere. If someone talked to me like what you described I would have said something along the lines of... "so you guys are checking the exact market conditions and deciding how much you want to rape me in the ***.... that sounds like a company I will want to continue to do business with in the future. Thats going to change or you can **** off and I'll be walking out that door". Women and car sales people will always test you so as long as you have other options your much more in control of the situation. I should also add, my dealership is the only one within 2500 miles so presumably has the most leverage of any dealership in the country but if they tried to use that on me I would tell them to **** off. I don't understand why people want to deal with places ripping you off. Leaves a bad taste in my mount and makes me hate the purchase. I'd rather drive my 17yo piece of **** salvaged car then buy a new one if im getting ripped off. Even if you're not an ******* in your life like I am, at least try to pretend you are for the 1 hour you're at a dealership. Treating car sales people or women nicely gets you walked all over and leaves you bitter and overpaying.

the ‘Pulse’ brake light, aka the ‘Rear End Collision Avoidance System’ lol.
I’ve worked with direct and honest sales people, but some dealers do talk in a way that suggests they presume their customers are really dumb.
’this protective(ceramic) coating is of the highest quality, much higher quality than what they use at these small shops. It makes the car looks really nice and shiny. We are committed to our product. If I leave my job this dealership is still here to take care of you. If you get the coating or window tint else where that shop might go out of business…. This coating we cannot remove it, it came with the car pre-installed. It’s our company policy to have them, we’ve been doing it since 2010 so it’s totally normal…’ Literally what a sales manager said to me today.

That’s a great deal.
Yeah I agree this is one of these situations where one needs to be disagreeable.
