I'm An Idiot

Backed into a flagpole today. Rear view camera and bumper sensors didn't stop me.

The damage is pretty minor, paint scrapes and a hairline crack in the gray bumper material.

Not sure I will fix it yet, but so unimpressed with myself. :(

My father always said dents and scratches add character.....i say they just add anger and frustration.

change the story to "someone rear ended me, out of work and down on their luck, no insurance, so you just let it go"

batchelor Jun 12, 2017 06:40 PM

Yes indeed. All that being said, considering how loud the bang was I expected a lot more damage.

However, I've hardly had a scratch or major door ding on my vehicles in the past 10 years, knowing I did this one myself stings a bit.

Appreciate the commiserations.

I let family drive my lifted truck alot...end result is mutiple dents in front/rear bumpers....now a nx is no excuse, my lifted truck changes spatial awareness for newbies and doesnt have sensors for front..it does rear :(

Sucks. Especially when you do it yourself. Like the time I tripped and elbowed my car, leaving a slight dent in the rear panel above the wheel. Luckily, its barely visible. Wonder how much it would cost to repair the damage on your car.

Had my auto body friend check it out, because the plastic is cracked it can't be buffed out so looks like I will have to have both bumper pieces replaced. Both the painted section and the flat grey section. :(

Cracked bumper can be repaired, i also backed into a pole once like you did and i had my auto body guy fix the resulting crack, its been repaired for 6+ years now without any issues.

Thanks, our insurers in BC, don't seem to want to go there.

$200 deductible replaces both bumper prices with no affect on my insurance, so am doing that.

First claim in 25 years.

Our cars have had 3 scratches. I did all of them. It humiliating, not to mention expensive.

Sorry to hear! Sometimes we just a make a mistake.

Does anyone know if the bumper covers come from the factory painted or if the body shop will paint them?

If the latter I am thinking about having them paint the wheel arches while they have the vehicle so get that color-matched look that I have seen on some.

Has anyone done this or looked into it?

I would be so pissed at myself! I would pay what ever to make it go away..but I'm a bit anal about how my car looks! It would bug me to no end..sorry that happened.

I am the same, each time I get a new to me vehicle, I detail it so that I know every scratch or ding that comes are ones that I put there or occurred during my ownership.

I have noted that the park sensors do not activate that quickly when moving at more than a crawl, not that I am blaming them, this one was 100% my fault!

Ouch, that sucks. On the plus side, that's a low deductible.

The bumpers are never painted-the shop will have to paint them.
