Exclamation Be careful driving your modded car to the airport

I was picking up a friend at SFO today and already had a bad feeling. I was driving super slow so my exhaust doesn't sound loud (f-sport with nvidia) and rolled down my front 2 windows since it has 20% tint.

While I was heading to the terminal, a unmarked SUV SFPD pulled me over. He said that my front license plate is also bent, which is a violation of some penal code. Keep in mind that my front license plate is zip tied to the lower grill and just the lower 10% of the license plate is bent. All the numbers are still perfectly visible but the police made a big deal that I violated some penal code.

I didn't bother talking back to him and just basically said OK to his 10 minutes of lecture. He then tells me he is a DOT inspector for the state and certified safety inspector for drag racing and said my car will be impounded for being too low. The funny thing is I drag race my car many times and I never had any problem passing the safety inspection. I also got pulled over 5 times in the past 5 years during the ownership of my IS350 for tint and never once did a CHP, city police mention anything about being too low.

I was expecting a **** load of fix it tickets but in the end, he said he will report me to the state ref and said I suggest you raising your coilovers a inch or so. I was confused how he knew I was on coilovers since I wasn't extremely low. Just 0 finger gaps all around.

haha, this dude was just trying to flex his rank on you. I work for SF Fire and the people who go to the airport go there to not do too much. You did the right thing by keeping your mouth shut, but I know they don't want to write those fix it tickets. He had NOTHING on you. Just ranting his knowledge and classes! Whatever!!!

I trolled the airport (SJC, OAK, not as big as SFO though) tons of times with no problems. I'll park at the pickup area (you can't do that apparently) and chill there until a worker tells me to leave. Drive in a circle, and repeat.

Going back to SJC this weekend to drop someone off. I hope this didn't jinx me.

I picked up my aunt about a month and half ago on my SC . front plate is on my window lol.. but no problems.. windows down since they are tinted haha.. knock on wood, but i would hate to get another ticket... but i did get pulled over twice.. on the way to eureka and on the way back.. got a ticket for no front plate/tinted window.. even thought its not too dark... then i followed this cop into a parking lot (benicia) and he signed off the ticket.. didn't fix a thing .

The lowest part of my car is definitely not lower than 5 inches.

I drove to the airport over 30 times with my car. This is the first time I ran into any trouble. Seems like the LEO was just having a bad day and wanted to mess with ricers. Probably mad that a stupid import can beat his muscle car on the drag strip.

I dropped my friend off at SJC. Parked there, unloaded the car with 2 cop cars within visible distance behind me. No problems. Whew.
