Default Wheel Packaging/Shipping?

Anyone know a good company/person in the Bay Area that packages wheels for shipping? Also, any advice on which company to use for shipping?

getting new mooncakes eh? LOL

you could probably take them to Fedex Office (aka Kinko's) and they will pack them for a fee......

UPS is probably a better choice as they let you add insurance to them.....

I did send a set via USPS with insurance....

Brian, we can do it for you - not hard but just need a tape gun and cardboard!

Shipped via FEDEX ground it will cost you roughly $250-300 to ship in the lower 48 states. Your total weight will be roughly 30-40 lbs per wheel packed weight.

Maybe ask some of the rim shops in your area for boxes they are going to throw away.

I'd recommended pics of rims and packaging before you it leaves your hands. INSURE them as well.

Heard Greyhound can ship giant items like body kits and stuff, only problem is the buyer will have to go to their local Greyhound to receive.

^^^ That's a nice alternative if you're cost conscious... I heard they are cheaper than UPS, FedEx, DHL...

Only drawback is as bweezy said, you are limited to Greyhounds route/station.

^Kim, there is no cheap method to ship such heavy items like wheels long distance. You don't want to go cheap on packing only to find damaged wheels. I did bring a pair of BBS LM's from overseas in my luggage once - just pay extra baggage fee (cheaper than shipping IMO) and safer + FASTER

I've tried FedEx, UPS, USPS, and even Greyhound. Yes, GreyHound is the cheapest with the only drawback of having to pick up from their stations.

You are better off packing the wheels yourself as it's just time consuming to place one layer of cardboard or two on both sides of the wheels to protect the rims and face of the wheels. Plastic or bubble wrap the entire wheel. If your shipping wheels with mounted tires then just bubble wrap the front and rear faces of the wheel. Use tape to secure the bubble wrap.

I've asked dealerships and wheel shops for boxes and you're doing them a favor by taking all that cardboard off their hands. Bring a box cutter unless you like to fold thick cardboard.

Yup, cardboard and bubble/shrink wrap is the easiest. Also, let some air out of the tire to minimize weight.

Yup, I usually go to America's tire and ask them for some wheel boxes.

I also put blue painters tape on the lips and parts of the wheels that stick out to prevent any scuffing. Just make sure the wheels won't move in the box before you seal it up.

And its cheaper to ship 2 wheels per package. Just tape or strap 2 wheel boxes together once you are done boxing them up. I like strapping the boxes because it gives the delivery guys handles to carry the boxes. I think it cost me $160 to ship my heavy MAE wheels (wheels only) to the east coast doing this, and the wheels were fine.
