Question New Plate

Kind of a strange question, but I'm wondering if its possible to get a new license plate from the DMV for cosmetic reasons when it wasn't stolen. I bought a used LS430 and the plates are really awful looking and chipping.

Here in Colorado they will let you get new plates if the old ones are cosmetically beat up. Shouldn't be an issue elsewhere I would imagine, because eventually they will become unreadable.

You could also (lose) them and apply for new plates. There will be a charge of course.
