With the transgo shift kit you really notice the effects of the 4th solenoid mod. The reason for this is because the transgo kit increases the line pressure, and with increased line pressure being 100% even at low speeds, it causes huge jerks. These huge jerks are especialy noticeable when putting the car from park to drive. For this reason I completely disconnected the 4th solenoid mod as it was not needed with the Transgo Shift kit. Maybe if you do heavy drag racing you would want both 4th solenoid + transgo, but variable transmission line pressure is actually a great feature even in a drag cars.

Personally I wouldn't even bother with the 4th solenoid mod and just do the Transgo Shift kit.

Hey man. To answer your question I'll explain what the 4th solenoid does.

4th Solenoid: Controls smooth shifts by varying the transmission line pressure. More line pressure gives harsher shifts so the 4th solenoid brings on the line pressure gradually to give a lexus like smooth shift. This smooth shifting is not performance oritented and is more intended for a luxury cruiser.

The 4th solenoid mod is a simple mod that makes the line pressure 100% the entire time. By doing this the line pressure is no longer gradually increased, it is always 100%. The effects of this are very small but noticeable in certain situations. You can even wire this 4th solenoid mod on a switch, to switch back and forth between normal operation of the solenoid.
