Hi Jack. I JUST read your comment. Basically, on the LS430's (04-06), the navigation is very limited while the vehicle is in motion. There is a speed sensor somewhere within the electronics, and when the vehicle is in motion, you are not able to do certain things like type in a destination, look up a restaurant, or use the cellphone keypad portion to place a call via bluetooth connection. You can use all those things when the vehicle is standing still / 0 MPH. The car does NOT have to be in park, though.

In my 02 Acura 3.5 RL, you can use all the buttons on the nav while the vehicle is in motion. In other words, you could type in a destination while driving. I WILL say though, over the past 4 years, I nearly ran off the road like 4x while doing

Going back to the LS430, there is a "secret" bypass procedure that you can do, and the video is on Youtube. Once you do that bypass, you can then use the nav while the car is in motion. The drawbacks to this bypass is that you have to do it after EVERY time you start the car, and also, Toyota eliminated the bypass altogether in the Navigation software version 6.01 and above I think. Version 8.01 is this years release (with all the new roads, phone #'s, restaurants, etc). My 05 LS had version 4.01...and I upgraded to 8.01. To me, personally, I'd rather have the NEWEST and LATEST maps, roads, phone #, restaurants, etc over the capability to do the bypass trick thing.

Also...there is someone on Ebay that sells instructions on what WIRE to cut (in the center stack/dashboard) that will let you use the navigation system while you drive, also..but not many people have tried that, I don't think.

    Hope this helps!
